Comment:

Boring and hard to follow. He contradicts the book and even real life sometimes which makes it hard to study but his notes are on the exam. Reading the book is crucial too. Exams are multiple choice with an essay but the multiple choice questions are nit-picky about definitions and are of the form "is X in the set of Y rules for Z?"

TERRIBLE CLASS!!! I known people that pass it without trying and then people who study for hours on end and fail. The exams are stupid hard!! Take a different professor if possible cause he is no help when you go to his office hours! AVOID GATEWOOD

Comment:

John Gatewood provides information in a way that is comical and yet still on target. Some people argue that he likes to hear his own voice but serioulsy...look up the definition of a lecture. Introductory courses are for a strong foundation of material. If you want this, you want Gatewood's class.

Despite of previous reviews regarding his arrogance, I see that Prof. Gatewood is a fine professor. Yeah, he likes to hear himself talk, and few of his assignments can be outrageous, but his amount of work is fair. Also, one has to be able to appreciate his humors and sarcasms to enjoy his class. And oh yeah, he rides his chopper to school.

Loving the sound of your voice is one thing, but I have NEVER encountered a professor who talked down to students quite this way. Arrogant. Guarantee my SATs are higher than his, but he still thinks we're all idiots.

I'm lucky I like linguistics bcs if I didn't he might make me punch someone in the face. I've never met anyone who loved the sound of their own voice more. Teaches directly from the book. Responsive if you participate and go to office hours. Gives INSANE homeworks and grades them quite strictly.
