Getz is a great teacher; however, HE spends most of the time talking when he wants the students to talk. He will talk the whole class period about the books and then you get really far behind. We didn't even finish one whole book last semester. Grades papers a little hard for the major's sections and the grades were all over the place. Still great!

You will learn a lot from Getz. He's extremely knowledgable and a genuinely awesome person. However, he is a very "hard" grader. By that, I mean that he actually grades papers according to skill. This can be frustrating for those of us who are used to getting easy A's, but imagine how it feels to get an A that you actually earn! I love Getz.

I had Getz for 205, and I currently have him for 371. Dr. Getz is a true English professor. He's helpful and will always look over papers and do what he can to help. BUT he won't just hand out A's. You have to earn them. He is a sweetheart and definitely my favorite in the department.

An excellent professor, his knowledge about the material was deep and thorough. We used every book bought for class extensively and learned a lot from them. He is a difficult grader, but if you are willing to let him look over drafts beforehand he is extremely helpful with improving them.

As an English major, he made me feel like a terrible writer. A very hard grader and most of the time class discussion has nothing to do with what will be on the paper. A very hard class and a very hard professor but the guy is smart and class is interesting if that's your thing.

This teacher is horrible. Avoid if at all possible. Not only does he take forever in giving you things back but he is also an extremely difficult grader. Even if you go to him for help he still gives you a bad grade. His tests have nothign to do with the lecture and are so specific its ridiculous. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

I have never read all the books for one class but i did for this one, really interesting and enlightening. I highly recommend. However, I have been waiting 3 days passed when he said he would post the final grade and he is generally very, very late giving things back. Dr. Getz will force you to be patient, but all in all a great experience.

Dr. Getz means well and is very nice but I found that his lectures had nothing to do with the material that was tested. Grades super hard and you are almost required to visit him multiple times before you turn in a paper if you expect to get a good grade. Don't expect to get any grades back until the end of the semester.

Sometimes goes on historical digressions in class or spends too long on a certain topic, but the overall scope of the class is very interesting. It actually made me question my ethics and has applied to my outside life. Always willing to read over rough drafts. Fair grader. Now has the policy of returning papers before the next is due, which helps.

He assigns anywhere from 50 - 100 pages to read in two days time between classes. Tests are so specific and reading is very important to do well on tests. Class is boring. Mandatory attendance policy. Avoid if possible!!

Getz is a very hard and SLOW grader. Test are very hard and your very, very lucky to get an A. Attendance is mandatory and there is a ton of reading. There are 4 papers and are all very different, plus he is very slow to return them back. He is willing to help you in the writing process and I think outside of class a nice guy, just a hard prof.

getz is one of the most intelligent professors i've ever had. his papers are hard, and he's pretty particular in his grading. but he's more than willing to go over papers with you before you turn them in. it's a hard class, but definitely managable. as long as you can adapt to his writing style, you can get a b, no problem.

It was hard to guage your performance in this class. It usually took 5 weeks to get anything back - you would have to submit your next test/paper before getting your last one back, so a lot of people made the same mistakes twice, and could never figure out exactly what he was looking for on tests. I have never had any prof this slow at grading.

I've taken Dr. Getz's courses several times and highly recommend his classes. The readings he picks are always interesting--class time flies by. Yes, you will have to work. Yes, you will have to read. And, yes, for these reasons you will actually learn--not memorize--LEARN!

War and Peace in World Lit. Class required a ridiculous amount of reading. Though my papers pointed to getting a B all semester, I ended up with an A-. Apparently he just wants you to improve, and wants to give lots of comments/''scare'' you a little with them. This class took more time than physics or math... a little ridiculous.

He's basically amazing. Tons of reading and a paper every other week, but class is always interesting. He's a tough grader too but he makes you work. Very worth it.
