Comment:

I took several courses with Dr. Harned and always found him a kind and insightful professor. Classes were less like lectures, more like discussions. He would throw out an open ended question from time to time and it really was a challenge to think of good responses to them. The reading selections were great!

He is an all right professor. Make sure to do the assigned reading because the quizzes matter a lot. On the final and midterm, he checks for content. CLASS PARTICIPATION IS REQUIRED because he says he gives up to 60 bonus points for that. He grades hard on the essays.

Not the worst prof. Class is incredibly boring and he tends to drone on and go off topic constantly. You have to show up or he will fail you even if you master the work. Just show up and do homework for other classes while he lectures. You won't miss anything.

The 13 pop quizzes were on stuff we went over extensively in class and they were never very hard. You're gonna learn a lot about each poem and if he notices that the class isn't getting a concept he will take up class time to make sure everyone does. I learned so much this semester from him. Take Harned! He is wonderful.

This course seems like its easy but you have to do your papers(research paper and 2 essays) and have to be in class for the 13 pop up written quizzes that he gives you during the semester. He sometimes pauses while he talks and makes the class a bit boring. You have to understand the glossary terms in order to do good on the written quizzes.

Good professor overall, is consistent with his grading and accessible. He's pretty laid back, but his lectures are a little long and unorganized. He does not require participation. Syllabus changed often, like five times, but he always sends you updated ones and does not stray from the assigned readings much. Only 3 doable papers were assigned.

Harned is one of the best professors I've taken. If anyone said he's horrible, they're wrong. There is no way anyone fails his class if you actually do your work. If you're not sure of your work, he offers to help on his down time. Overall, he's there to help you. You won't find a professor who's willing to help you like he is. HIGHLY recommend him

Sometimes runs himself in circles ans confuse what he's trying to say, but if you have patience and just let him get to the point, it's not hard to understand him. People think he's being rude and interrupting them, but in reality it's often the opposite. He has a hard time getting right to the point, so he doesn't need your extra input.

Professor Harned is a great professor! He is always crystal clear on what he expects on essays, and even helps guide you on your thesis. It was a bit hard to stay interested sometimes, but focus on your essays and you should be fine. He is always available to help which was awesome!

I was already dreading the semester before it even began, more than anything because I knew I'd be taking an English course. I was very surprised that I became very interested in literature, mostly because Harned kept the class very interesting. Take him! He will keep you alert! Highly recommend!!

Has a very specific grading scale. He is very helpful. Might be rude from time to time. What I really liked about the class was that he'd get you in groups and have you read each others assignments and allowing them to give you their feedback. Harned's feedback combined with the one I got from my classmates helped me write great papers.

We discussed poinless topics over and over again. He gave me a failing grade on 2 assignments that other students got good grades on and the work was very similar. All our essay assignments were pointless. He often got confused on the material HE WAS TEACHING.

John Harned is a great professor, though he is a bit all over the place. Do the work and show up, participate actively, and don't be rude. He will give you a bad grade if he deems your brain goofed up, and will fail you to save you the experience of getting in more debt and no degree. He will not push you through to 1302 if your not ready for it

British Literature was the class i took and i think it can be very boring! no one participates because the stories are awful and awkward! they all relate to sexual things which is weird. he does expect a lot on the essays. 3 Papers. Midterm. and Final. he can be very confusing at times and brit lit is already confusing as it is. Stories are BORING!

Really easy-going guy and not too demanding. He includes attendance in your overall grade so be sure to go to class. He answered everyone's questions and set aside class time to help us revise mistakes we made on papers. I thought it was a fairly easy class and he was mostly lenient.

Yes you must attend class, or you will get an email saying you have been dropped a letter grade. Overall I absolutely loved this class. Yes he has some unconventional grading, and writing style, but it was great. Glad I took this class!!! By the way I don't think he was rude at all.
