Comment:

As an English major, I would prefer a little more discussion, instead of just lecture. However, his' jokes and tangents keep you on your toes and are very entertaining. If you need someone who will stay on topic the whole time, then Holmes isn't your guy. However, it's clear that he's passionate about what he teaches and I definitely learned a lot.

Comment:

Although this class was an easy A, I found Dr. Holmes frustrating. As an English major, I was hoping to really explore the texts we read. However, Holmes tends to summarize the works and skim over important themes without much discussion, focusing mainly on objective material. Easy but not very engaging

The class was very easy to do well in. The texts are helpful when it comes to writing the course papers, but for each and every class reading over sparknotes will do you just fine. MIdterm was the easiest exam I have ever taken, and his final was one of the hardest exams I have ever taken. He is funny and loves to discuss the readings.

I love Dr. Holmes he's very passionate about his subject and even though his lectures can be a little boring he still makes it easy to learn and gives helpful study guides before tests. Doesn't take attendance either or assign homework

Dr. Holmes is absolutely awesome! You will learn a lot from him. He teaches in such a fun way. He deserves such respect and I believe most students love him. I haven't heard anyone say anything bad about Dr. Holmes. He's so funny, and caring, and will really work with you to help you do the best you can. I say take Dr. Holmes for anything you can.

Classical Mythology is a great class with Dr Holmes. He's a lot of fun, very laid back and amusing. The class isn't too difficult but you learn a LOT and he makes it really interesting. My favorite English prof at FUS.

I took phonetics and the history of language with Holmes. I went into the class expecting it to be boring, to my surprise it ended up being pretty fascinating. If you like reading, the English language and literature you will find this class fascinating.

Dr. Holmes is a very smart man and is very fun to watch, but it is hard to understand him sometimes and he loves to go on tangents which can be very confusing. Overall, a very smart prof, but sometimes hard to understand.

ohhh dr. holmes...lets just say...that i didnt attend his class ONCE after easter break, and still got an A. if you plan on sleeping thru the lectures,(aka big long tangents), then study a lot for your midterm and final, and see if you can get some extra credit. its tempting not to read the books, but do it. it will pay off on the midterm/final.

Dr. Holmes'class was boring and pointless to attend. He gives you a study guide before the midterm and final which one can study themself and pass the tests. He wasn't too willing to answer my questions when I when to his office for help he said he was too busy. If you have to take this class it is easy to pass but isn't beneficial for teaching.

A really nice and pretty funny guy...class was pretty boring a lot of the time, though. I didn't keep up with the reading like I should have and mostly crammed right before exams, but he was still very generous with my final grade. A really nice guy, knowledgable, and an overall pleasant experience. I'd take him again.

Dr. Holmes is the nicest professor I know. He is really helpful when a problem arises and does all that he can to get his students the best grade. If you do the readings, his tests are so fair. His class is not at all stressful which is so great because you learn about a lot of different things w/out feeling so pressurd to know everything he says.
