John Jacobs is a great professor. He cares about his students and is extremely willing to help you out. Your grade is based almost entirely on 4 papers which he grades pretty easily. He is also the slowest talker known to humankind and his lectures will probably bore you to death, but he's a good guy and it's an easy class. I would take him again.

Comment:

He gives a lot of comments on papers when you get them back so you know what he liked and what you need to improve on. He's a nice man but he talks so much and so slowly. He sometimes spends a whole class just reading the prompt for a paper and explaining each point. Other than how slow paced he is, it's an easy class.

Dr. Jacobs is passionate about writing and loves teaching freshman and sophomores. This was a really easy A. Honestly all you have to do is show up for class and participate occasionally (he will like you more) and follow the prompt for each paper. He cares about your improvement as a writer. He is also very helpful in office hours.

Ok teacher overall, but a good human being. Go to class and at least pretend you're paying attention (visible phone will set a bad tone for the rest of the semester). 4 papers only. All pretty simple, he looked for a strong voice in writing more than he did on how well you knew the subject matter (at least for me). Easy 3 credit A

I had no interest in poetry prior to this class and now I'm thinking about picking up an english minor. Incredibly helpful if you reach out to him, will proofread your papers for you-you'll get an A. I went to his office hours once for help with a paper and ended up staying for two hours with him showing me poems he thought I would like. LOVE HIM.

John Jacobs is a very quirky old man. He is definitely very smart though and he loves what he teaches. He is a very easy grader and always makes you look at things in a different way. His class was a blow off class but he is a great guy and is definitely willing to help. Just confusing sometimes on what he wants for papers

He was a great professor. Four papers and received an A on all four. Helpful if you reached out to him. Class was rather boring, but not entirely his fault.. the material was boring. Could have still gotten an A on all four papers had I not showed up to a single class.

I enjoyed his class. I loved how he had someone from the IC come in to talk to us about research because Loyola has so many resources that most other students don't know about. He likes to teach what students want to learn so ask him questions! 4 papers and he is more than willing to help! I highly recommend this class!

The reason I gave him an easiness level of 3 is because there are only 4 papers assigned for the whole class, and no other homework. However, there is absolutely no basis for receiving grades. I got a 95% on one paper, and got a straight 0 on the next. He is the most useless professor ever. Painfully boring. PAINFULLY BORING.

Granted this was a UCWR class and no one was thrilled to go, literally no one paid attention any day of class. Jacobs is a really nice guy, moves every single deadline back at least once, no homework, very easy grader but you learn absolutely nothing

-.- I honestly wish attendance wasn't mandatory for his class... actually that didn't stop me from ditching a bunch of classes anyways. The days that I did go only half the class showed up.
