I had him for a super difficult class. I feel like he tried his best to help students but the class was so hard that it really didn't matter what he did. He's not too hard of a grader though so try your best!

Loved this class for so many reasons! It is definitely difficult in terms of the content and the exams, but you absolutely can do well in it. YOU MUST SHOW UP TO CLASS! Everything on the exams is content discussed in class. Do the readings, listen to discussions, & take advantage of study guides.

This class was overall pretty difficult. The material get harder as the class continues and its really easy to fall behind. The reading didn't even really do much to help because that is really confusing too. The best way to understand is to listen during lectures and ask alot of questions.

This class is NOT easy, you do have to work for it but it's a good class to take if you are interested in the subject. If you don't go to class, you will more than likely fail. Tests come directly from the lectures and you MUST take notes to study. Prof. has a dry sense of humor. This class can be frustrating, you have to be prepared.

I was told after taking his class that it is taught differently from most. class is going over and discussing readings about various topics and tests are short essay questions where as others tended to cover different topics and and MC tests

If your an open minded person, then take this class. This will be a tricky class though. I was scared entering into this class at first, but I dedicated my self in the beginning and did quiet well but most did not. Its a very confusing class but if you continue to show progress he'll help. I got a B even w/a D+ on my last exam.

Professor Latourell has hard time explaining the concepts. He reads through the text book all the time and does not know how to get the message across to the students. His grading system is very very hard. He basically wants you to memorize whatever you learned in the class. Textbook is used in everyday class and attendance is not mandatory.

Professor Latourell's Intro to Philosophy class is NOT a course that should be taken lightly. Attendance is never taken but is extremely important because the material is so incredibly hard to understand. He will make it seem like you understand the concepts by passing you on all the homework, but fail you on the exams. I dropped this course.

Took the class as an elective, come test time I was kicking myself for it. However, this was the first time I can honestly say I was disappointed that the semester was over. Excellent professor, very intelligent, respectful, challenges you, wants you to do well and understand the material.

Highly intelligent, but extremely dry and boring. Only teaches out of textbook which is difficult to understand. Homework and studying is a must in this class. Attendance is never taken which is awesome because dude will bore you to death. If you enjoy dwelling over a wordy textbook for hours each night to pass, this class is for you!

He is impossible to understanding, not the best kind of professor for a philosophy class. You could ask him a question and he will answer it in a way that is more confussing. He is dry, boring, and does the same exact thing every single class. If I knew this months ago, I would have never taken his class.

I have taken a couple classes with Mr. Latourell. His humor is dry (which is lovely) and his knowledge is extensive. I previously attended classes at Tulane University, a highly accredited school, and was not enthused by the idea of attending classes at a community college. However, this professor restored my enthusiasm for learning.

My first philosophy class at DCCC, heis a tough grader, but very knowledgeable he cares about his students and their mastery of the course material. He averages the grades from your test and will let you decide if you will take the final.Final exam can only help you in his class and will not hurt you. He will not tell you this until the end Study!

John Latourell is a nice professor. The class was so unbelievably difficult that my classes average was around 67% with the highest grade in the class being an 86%. The subject material is very difficult, the professor is sort of helpful. I would say only take Philosophy if you absolutely have to.
