I had Dr. Marsden in 2011/2012 for the Core class and the ENGL202. I was a terrible student then, and rarely even went to class. I loved Dr. Marsden, he was my favorite professor. Cares about his students, and allows you to pick a prompt to write about. Take if you can, as he's one of the only positive professors from my time at IUP.

Comment:

Dr. Marsden is one of the nicest people you will ever meet and has a heart of gold. The class was pretty easy and the only test was a midterm. There are two large papers but his class schedule gives you time to finish the papers. The only issue I had was the lack of structure, which made me want to do nothing in the class.

One of my favorite professors. Class is discussing readings and some group presentations. No exams other than a midterm, which was super easy. Had to write a 12 page research paper, but you get to pick the topic and have almost half of the semester to do it.

This class was an easy A. You just have to make sure that you show up and skim over the material that was assigned for that class. The papers are not hard, they are just kind of on the long side. I loved Dr. Marsden, would take another class with him if I could.

Marsden is the nicest lil man I've ever met. He brought our class cookies and made us eat all of them because he doesn't eat sugar. Always ready to talk about Yorkshire. Super chill. I got pretty sick during the semester and he was super helpful and let me turn in my stuff a little late. Cares about his students.

Marsden is a great prof, I would take him again! He assigns long papers, but you get to pick the topics. In-class work was little to none for most of the semester. He assigned a few readings & you learn about MLA formatting, but other than that class is mainly discussion. He also gives good feedback on papers &sometimes extends deadlines.

This was an excellent class. Dr. Marsden is honestly one of the cutest dad types ever. There is a lot of in class discussion (literally that's what the entire class is), so it's really easy if you forgot to do the reading. There are a few long papers and a few group things, but it's pretty easy.

He was a great professor and I would definitely take a class with him again. Attendance isn't mandatory and as long as you do all your work and try you'll get an A. He cares for his students and gives good feedback on work. Class was very enjoyable but also helpful. I highly recommend him :)

He's very nice and relaxed in a lot of areas. If you come to class, participate, and do the readings, he will love you and it will show in your grade. If he used to have an attitude problem he definitely doesn't have it now and is really willing to help you get a good grade.

Comment:

Great choice for first unit of freshman core. Sometimes I had no idea what was going on, but it was a fun class every day. Not too much writing and reading, with everything spaced out so it is manageable. He didn't really help that much with my thesis conference, but it all turned out well. I would recommend him to future freshmen. :)

John Marsden's class was the one I most looked forward to last semester. The discussions were thought- provoking, stimulating, and insightful. He is the total package -- charming, engaging and challenging! He pushes you to strive for your best. And that accent, I certainly would take him again. DAHHMN! He is creepy and slimy haired and when he knows you don't like him he will play it up and make you feel uncomfortable. The class is very boring and if you werent assigned a typed response, there would be absolutly no reason for reading the essays. You can pretty much fall asleep in the class. He grades the larger assingments pretty hard though.

i really liked him, his accent is quite funny - "Dahmn! This papah sucks!" hah. you'll get a lot of work, but really it's just essay writing all the time (outside of class). so as long as you're ready to type your brain out on Microsoft Word you're fine.
