I went to every class, never read the book and got an A. I think the problem is that many students just don't like the material.

John's class is tough if you don't preform weekly studies or if you skip class. Read the lecture notes and the book a little each day. 9 hours of studying per week will assure you get an A. Come every day, because John gave an extra credit opportunity in one lecture, since the tests are 45% of the lecture, it's just smart to attend class anyway.

Lectures are fairly entertaining, but don't prepare you for exams(Which are 100% of your final grade.) He doesn't use blackboard, so no grades or power-points are posted for you're assistance. He hands out an extensive study guide before the midterm and final and expects you to learn most material by reading the 400ish page text over the term.

I wouldn't agree that this is the second most failed class at OSU. The test is 55% book and 45% lecture. The study guide is pretty long, but it does help. The online multiple choice practice quizzes does help a lot--some are taken right off of it. Just make sure you attend class and do most of the reading. Reading averages from 30-60 pages a week.

Are we rating the SAME professor?!? This guy is HILARIOUS! His lectures are worth going to, even if you just play Tetris on Facebook the whole time. His study guides take a little brain power, but the tests are moderate. If you want to pass, get into a STUDY GROUP! It makes things soo much better!

Loved this prof. He's hilarious and makes lectures very entertaining. I don't find him offensive at all, he's just doing his job and showing art, some of which ppl may find offensive. Tests were really hard, but easier if you went to lecture. There was always lots on tests I didn't expect, but there is a large curve which made it alright.

Terrible teacher. He is extremely offensive to his students and shows no regard for their values. If you have any values at all, then don't take his class.

What a terrible professor. His class was boring, the book was boring, and the tests were a nightmare. I am a 3.8 student and I had a really tough time with this class. The professor also has ZERO respect for the values of his students. Avoid this guy like the plague.

Excellent class... excellent teacher... probably the most engaging lecturer I've had. The best use of powerpoint slides I've seen in college. You'll see a lot of nudity, and the last day of class is worth skipping if your are offended by a lot of nudity. He showed some very disturbing and offensive images the last day. Not an easy A. an easy B.

Read your book, check out the study multiple choice on the book's website. I got an A in this class pretty easily, but if you have no background in Art you need to do a little extra studying. No homework except to read, my kinda class!

Entertaining lecture style, but a lot of material is covered so be prepared to TAKE NOTES. Midterm and final are quite tough, but manageable. One of the best professors at OSU.

TAKE A LOT OF NOTES! Art 101 was fun but really hard, the midterm and final were really hard, harder than some of my required classes, if you really want to take this class, I suggest you S/U it. Great teacher, very funny, but a lot of info, don't get fooled like everyone else, even though it's a 101 class, it's very hard. If you take it, S/U it.
