Best professor I've ever had. Great lectures and if you pay attention it's pretty easy to figure out what will be on the exams. Be ready to take notes fast and to keep up with his lectures. He takes advantage of every second of class so make sure to stay focused or you'll miss something important. Highly recommend :)

I took Hist 202 with Dr. Monroe. Great professor, easy to understand, really wants you to do well. How well you do in the class is lucking out with your TA. I got a 100% in the class effortlessly. All you need to do is take notes and do the assigned readings. He has inspired me to add a history minor too

Very very knowledgeable about the subject. Lectures are interesting and funny, and I felt like I learned so much each lecture I went to. I plan on taking another class from him just because he teaches it. History department is very lucky to have him.

Dr. Monroe has been by far one of my favorite professors. He is very engaging in every lecture. He is extremely proper and knowledgable but still makes jokes from time to time. You can easily get a B-A as long as you go to the lectures and participate in resitation. The tests are all in class written essays so get ready to cram in a lot of info.

Super enthusiastic and loves teaching. Lecture is basically him talking about a subject for 45 minutes with a few powerpoint pictures and occasional music. Sounds horrible, right? He never lost my attention. He knows how to tell you everything you need to know while making it interesting and sometimes funny. Makes you see why history is important

I have never had a professor that was as enthusiastic about teaching as Monroe. He loves history and has great lectures that make sense. The exams aren't too bad, they are just in essay format. If you ever need help in the class, go see him. He is a very nice guy that takes his job as a professor very seriously.

Prof. Monroe has been one of my favorite professors at ISU. He expects a lot, but does not make it impossible to deliver. This is not a class to skip reading in-- you really do discuss it every day. I enjoyed every single day.

Very enthusiastic, gets very worked up when teaching, which is great. Puts so much energy into his lectures and adds little bits of information that get away from the actual events to make everything more interesting and to give students a laugh. He can start talking pretty fast as he gets more into it but catches himself and slows down. AMAZING

One of the best professors I have ever had. He will make time to help any student. He is animated and loves what he teaches. He is incredibly intelligent and just a good person. He is a fair grader and as long as you work hard and speak in class, you will do well. We need more instructors like Monroe.

Dr. Monroe is enthusiastic, eager to help, and best of all, a fantastic educator. He balances difficult subject matter and in-depth discussion with careful guidance so that even very tough material is understandable. You'll work hard, but never feel like you're going at it alone. The single best professor I've had.

How can you go wrong with someone who references Mel Brooks' History of the World Part I... also he bought and sent me text books in Iraq so I could finish his History 414 class.
