Not the best teacher out there. The class is entirely a lecture. Homework is straight forward for the most part.. as for the essay and tests, not so much. Dont bother getting the book cause you'll never use it. You will like this class if youre into climate and stuff..

It's hard NOT to pass this class, but you will be frustrated all semester trying to figure out exactly where you stand grade-wise compared to everybody else. The tests and final grades are curved because of the lack of structure for his class. Study the past links, do at least average on the exams and the papers, and you should get at least a "C."

He has certain expectations for his students. Makes you get three books, but he never mentions them in class and we never go over them. Expects you to give specific answers, otherwise will mark you wrong for your answers. Though it is an introductory course, he expects you to already have a good understanding of the subject. Lecture heavy!

There were 3 tests and "2" papers. Meaning you write your one research paper and if you like your grade then your grade will count for the second. If you don't like your grade, then you can make corrections to paper 1 and resubmit. He uses his own website for class and its very confusing to follow along and take notes, but the tests are curved.

Do not take this class if you're not willing to put the effort to read and study. To me, this class was boring but he is very passionate about the class. A pro is that a lot of the notes are online. I did really bad on a HW assignment and a test and still managed to pass.

This professor was too stricked at grading. Also his lectures are very long and boring. His tests are hard as well and the papers we have to write are not Interesting and long. Would not take this class again because of the experience I had.

The class was cool at the beginning of the semester but as it progressed I realized how he limits our thinking and wants us just to learn the basics and background and too not infer things. This made the class boring since ideas were hard to connect and really easy to get distracted in class since a computer is in front of you the whole time.

I took the class because of GE, not expecting to like it or care about it, but it was easily the most interesting class I have taken in a long time. He is really passionate about the subject and teaches the subject well. I enjoyed the class and I would definitely take it again.

Pretty interesting class, John definitely knows what he's talking about, and for the most part is pretty clear. His tests usually have some "PhD" type language for sure, but for the most part cover exactly what he talks about in class. The books are somewhat necessary only for the writing assignment, otherwise I didnt read them. Homeworks are easy

The man loves the weather. Two HWs, two papers, two exams, extra credit and final. Acts pretentious throughout the semester. If you miss class, and you probably will, everything he covers is on the class website.Exams are based mostly on lectures. He doesn't even mention any of the books in class, but you will have to reference them in your papers.

Monteverdi is by far one of the worst teachers i have had at sfsu. He repeats himself A LOT and the work load is so stressful. Half of those things aren't very frequent things in California. I went to his office hrs once and i felt as if I was being talked down to the whole entire time. DO NOT waste your time taking this class for Segment 3.

This class is supposed to be for Seg 3, which means the majority of the people in the class DONT know weather. He doesn't care about that fact. Work load is heavy: 2 HW's, 3 exams, 2 5-pg papers, 3 in class surveys. Mandatory Class notes once. No review sessions EVER. ONLY plus: the website. Do not take this class if you are not a science major.

John is one of the most passionate teachers that I have ever had. This guy lives meteorology and chases storms when school lets out! John is an inspiring teacher who can light up the room with his enthusiasm for the weather. Great, quirky sense of humor too. A neat guy. Highly recommended.

John is my favorite teacher of all time. You learn so much and you'll never be bored in any of his classes. He is such a caring teacher who wants you to learn. We learned so much about weather chart analysis:learning analyzing soundings, drawing isobars, learning to locate fronts, decoding METARS, etc. And John is the best dressed man on campus :)

A Segment III class - Very sharp professor. B.A., M.A., and Ph.D all from UC-Berkeley. His Strengths: Thorough, knowledgeable, fair grader, enthusiastic. His Weaknesses: Fast talker, fast-paced lectures, NO question time (or at least, answer time...tough to get your point across to his fast-paced Berkeley brain).

John was a great teacher! His violent atmosphere class taught so much about hurricanes and thunderstorms. His tests are based right off of lectures, which are very interesting and enjoyable. He shows lots of great photos and graphics online to help you understand concepts. He truly wants you to learn and is very approchable! Funny too

Such an awesome dude. He made this crap so easy to understand, that it was interesting, can you believe it! He loves what he does, and he repeats himself alot, which for me, helps me to remember things. He puts things in such a basic way, and he really knows what hes talking about. And hes always on Channel 2 news at 10. How cool is that?
