I absolutely loved this class. I, of course, wish we would have spent more time on the 80s but overall I learned a lot and had a blast. The quizzes come straight from the online help site, exams were easy, he's clear on what he wants from you. Show up, be respectful and do the reading and you'll pass. Definitely my favorite professor at DVC.

Attendance is MANDATORY, do not leave in the middle of class! (often rants to students who are there). Other than that easy class. He is really enthusiastic about what he is teacher which is always a plus. You take 6 chapter quizzes, write 2 concert reviews, 10 movie reviews, and a final which includes listening questions.

I like how he has a passion for music. However, my complain is that the class is called HISTORY OF ROCK and R&B yet we spend the first half of the semester learning about Blues and Jazz so you will only spend about 3 weeks out of the whole semester actually talking about Rock. Lastly, he thinks he is funny. His jokes are quite bad.

Awesome teacher! He knows what he's talking about and clearly loves the topic. You'll learn a lot and by paying attention in class so you'll barely have to study. End of chapter questions, concert reviews and movie reviews are pretty much it. If you love music and talking about it, take this class!

He's an awesome teacher. Funny, knowledgable, and very helpful. You'll learn a lot, and find new apprreciation for a broader array of music. He can get a little sidetracked, or spend too much time on one subject. But you don't mind it too much because he's so passionate about everything. Just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Mr. Appell is an amazing teacher. His enthusiasm and interest in the subject is contagious as he constantly tries to make the class as exciting as possible. From youtube videos to documentaries, we learn a lot! I feel so much more knowledgeable on the history of rock&roll and R&B now. If only this class could go on for another semester!! :]

Mr. Appell is like a high school teacher in the best possible sense, in that he tries to engage students (but never calls on people w/o their hand raised), caters to many learning styles w/ youtube videos, projector, listening to CD's, and tries not to talk AT you. He is always positive and says he loves his job. Fun class and an easy A.

This class ROCKS! At first I wasn't really interested, but throughout the semester Mr.Appell got me more interested. He wrote the book, so he really knows his stuff. The Quizzes are online,so all you have to do is go on the website and study the questions and answers, than take the test in class. This class is SUPER EASY. It'S A guaranteed a A+.

Easy class but kinda boring sometimes. You have three concert reviews to write, a view video sheets to do, and a listening log where you list all the songs played in class, and a quiz every 1-2 weeks where the answers can be found online to study. My only complaint is that he has a tendency to ramble & not give each musical genre an equal time slot

This guy is the best! He has the cheesiest and corniest jokes in the world, but I would DEF. take him. He really makes the class interesing and has a kick-ass grading policy. I would recommend taking him FOR SURE!

Very knowledgeable person in music. Must go to class everyday. Easy A, but you just need to be in class. Lectures are not too boring, he gets sidetracked easily on music. Good teacher, take this class.
