Comment:
His paper criteria is very vague, and he often grades you based on criteria you weren't informed about. His lecturing is often awkward, making it hard to take him seriously. When he grades, he leaves positive feedback but gives you a relatively low grade and doesn't explain why.

This professor can't follow the guidelines of his own syllabus, doesn't give good/any real feedback on his papers, and requires you to be in class and teaches close to nothing. Easily the worst professor I have had, and it is sad to see him be a representation of DSU...

Literally the worst professor I have ever had. He doesn't update grades, He grades like the course is a masters English course and he doesn't explain his assignments in detail.

Comment:
Not always clear on his assignments. You can ask him for clarification and sometimes you get an answer that will help you write a 100 point paper. Takes a good 3 weeks to grade something, and when grades come back sooner, it's more often that not, too late to mean anything. Generally responds to email, but may be better to go track down his office.

Comment:
He is not clear on his assignments, nor does he really ever give realistic expectations for due dates of assignments. And when he does, his feedback is given so late for the revised papers that it's too late to make a difference. Overall the guy is nice but he's too confusing and lazy for a teaching job in college.

Absolutely terrible teacher. It takes at least 3 weeks for him to grade a simple 2 page paper. He seems to be completely confused 100% of the time and therefore noone in his class ever has a damn idea what he is talking about. His assignments require 3 times as long to decipher what he expects than to actually complete, and feedback is worthless.

You know how puzzles have pieces that fit together nicely? You can usually figure out how to solve them? John Nelson is not like a puzzle. He is a bumbling idiot. He just wrote a book, and I wonder if anyone can read it. Assignments are haphazard adventures into a dark place known as hell.

Assigments were not defined well. Always tries new things, isn't ever sure about how assignments will turn out. You might think after teaching comp for 10 yrs he'd have some stuff that works figured out by now.
