Comment:
Professor Ockay is a really nice guy, but when it comes to teaching he is bad at making you learn the material. Gives out hundreds of HW problems and his tests are 10X harder than the HW. No handouts or reviews you have to open the book and read the whole chapter to learn. Took him for Calc3 and DifEQ and barely passed after putting a lot of effort

Not a terrible choice. The stuff is pretty straight forward. Because it's online, it's up to you to be on top of all the work. However, this professor doesn't grade on time and doesn't respond to emails. When he does, it's too late. If you want to take an online class, don't do it in math and have a responsible professor.

Ockay lectures tend to be a bit monotone but he does explain everything perfectly. His tests are based on what he goes over and the homework, aren't that hard and are graded fairly. He cares about students and can solve any problem you ask him about cold. Not as engaging as others but a great professor nonetheless.

I took Ockay for Differential Equations and failed. I couldn't grasp the concepts, even though I spent a lot of time in his office hours. This might not sound like a recommendation, but I gladly retook his class this semester because he is an expert and always ready & able to help, but you must go see him. Discussing math via email is useless.

I had to drop this class because I was teaching myself from the textbook and was in tutoring every week for help. The homework he assigns and tests are 10x harder than what is in the text. Emailed him once, never heard back. Very disappointing.

HORRIBLE!!!! I took the online class and all he did was put powerpoints up. And the powerpoints don't help at all. He didn't put any grades in until the very end.

This professor does not answer emails. Ever. He might be different in person but this was the worst experience of my academic career. I was left wondering what my grades were for the entire semester. I still am. Don't take him if you want an A.

This prof rarely replies to emails, and if he does, it's weeks after you've emailed him. The tests are very difficult. He never posts grades even after emailing him many times. The textbook helped somewhat in the first 2 tests but then it was just torture from there. I found more help from a textbook that I bought on Amazon then what he offered.

Literally a nightmare. Didn't respond to emails halfway into the semester or upload grades, had NO idea where I stood, guaranteed failure. At least online. Maybe in person he's better. Only take if you want to waste your valuable time and money like I did. Please take my word. His powerpoints are useless.

This professor is absolutely the best. Crystal crystal clear, if you do the homework assignments the exams will be much easier for you. He gives review sheets. If you do study the review sheets you should be fine with the class. Attendance is taken but you shouldn't miss a class if you want to pass.

Horribly teacher. Had him online, no teaching ever occurred.I understand it is online, but I could have just bought the textbook and did the problems in it, some input from the teacher would have been nice.He posts problems to do out of the textbook(which is not very good).Homework/test problems are usually not able to be referenced in the book.

Professor Ockay is a very pleasant, and approachable. His lectures are very helpful and always willing to review additional homework problem when requested. The exams are fair and he will drop the lowest grade (no curves). Truly learned a lot, and looking foward to DE!!!

Took him for DifEQ this semester, already had for Calc 3. Possibly the clearest lecturer of any math teacher I will ever have. Self disciplined class and doesn't grade homework, but YOU MUST KEEP UP WITH THE HOMEWORK FAITHFULLY OR YOU WILL DO POORLY ON TESTS. Tests are very short and tough, but doable if prepared. You're the best, professor Ockay!!

I took this class online, so I learned most of the material myself. I found that the professor was helpful when I had questions, and he responded quickly. I also felt that the tests were fair, and the questions on the tests were based on homework questions or examples in the book, so there were no surprises.

3 tests (1 dropped), 1 final. No curvature. Excellent teacher. Always available for extra help and has a seemingly endless well of patience. Tests are fairly difficult but completely doable with an A with proper preparation and a full night's sleep beforehand. Probably the best professor I've ever had.

Took him for Calc III, and taking him again for DifEQ. It is amazing that one of the best math professors teaches in a community college. Very polite, gentle, caring, and always willing to help students understand the material. MAKE SURE YOU KEEP UP WITH HOMEWORK, otherwise you'll fall behind. Tests are very short and easy as long as you keep up.
