I registered for "Role of Public Comm" but he taught "Political Comm". Gave no syllabus so assignments were arbitrary. Thought he had assigned a mini-series, but he had not so no one watched it, yet he still assigned a paper on it. Gave three papers in one week during the final week of classes. He's nice but not a good teacher. Don't reccomend

I took mass opinion and censorship with phelan and am taking another class with him my last semester at fordham. he is brilliant, brings multimedia to make class interesting, and tailors his class to relevant current issues. a lot of writing but it's on interesting topics so it's not too hard, and he's a hard grader - loves seeing improvement.

ive had him 2x, yes he likes to talk, but if you are listening you will realize that he is brilliant. the papers are long and tedious but you acutally learn something doing them and he usually only reads the first page anyway so if you have a good intro you are set. if you are lazy dont take it.

John Phelan is the best teacher I have had at Fordham, and I wish he taught more classes because he is simply brilliant. His classes may seem too hard and boring at first, but if u stick with him you'll realize that he is extrememly intelligent, and has some really powerful stories to tell in class

Professor Phelan is one of the most intelligent people I've ever met, and his lectures are stimulating and interesting. There's a good deal of work in the class, but it's all worthwhile. Take his Mass Opinion class, and you will learn so much.
