Comment:
Prof. Schulz was my favorite professor at BU. Difficult, yes - but isn't that why you're in college in the first place - to learn? His discussions were stimulating and if you showed you cared, he would go out of his way to help. BU is losing a gem of a Dean and Professor.

Schulz doesn't actually teach this class, but he did used to end each lecture with a 'Dr. Seuss' type poem. It ruined the message of the lecture and were decidedly stupid. He tells the same stories over and over again, but you hardly ever see him. Make sure you get a good TA! That will make or break your COM 101 experience.

Hard class with lots of work. Papers were stupid, Who's Who pointless. Most of the lectures have nothing to do with Communications.

Comment:
It's not that bad. I mean, yes, the Who's Who is designed to hit students where it hurts, but oh well. They didn't count for our grade anyway. Schulz doesn't actually teach the class, or actually show up most of the time. At this point, it's like spotting Bigfoot: 'Oh hey! Schulz! Over there! Oh, man, you missed it; he's gone.'

He is smarter than you and he lets you know that on the first day of class. He instructs the TA's to be hard and make you feel stupid. He tells you very quickly about all of the great things he's done in his life. His closing poems ruin the final message of hte guest lecturers. And you can't tell if he's telling hte truth or exaggerating.

Embellished resume or not, the guy is still an intelligent man. However I do think he is arrogant and I did not enjoy COM101...thank goodness he only did intros and wrap ups at the end.

I'm a former student. I know its easy to look down on the guy, but take a step away from your own personal gripes and look at the man. You could learn A LOT from him and you're lucky to have him. Relationships take effort. Make an appointment or seek him out. You could gain so much from his years beyond simple COM knowledge.

Ruining School of Communication. Embellished his credentials. Seems to have no interest in seeing students succeed at this school. Many faculty members do not like him but will not speak out for fear of losing their jobs. Pretentious and egotistical. I almost left BU because of this man.

This man couldn't care less about his COM students and pretty much designs the first writing assignment so everyone will fail and learn to write just like him, allowing him to bask in his superiority. Even my father thought Schulz was an ass when he heard him speak at BU. Almost transferred out of COM and BU because of him. Avoid at all costs.

Comment:
Schulz himself is an engaging, if pedantic teacher who clearly outlines the methods to succeed in his class and why he is a very important man. The few lectures he actually delivers (90% are guests) are interesting and informative, but the class itself has little to do with communications, and TA grading is VERY subjective!

Comment:
TAs grade everything--the same work for the same class can therefore be graded differently, as Schulz doesn't see any of "his" COM 101 students' work. Schulz is a great communicator. Unfortunately, though, the first thing he communicates to freshman is how great he is.

Ode to Shulzie Dear old Doctor Shulzie is the dean, Whom some COMies find rather mean. HeĆ¢€™s the man who will never let you forget All the great honors in life he did get. A poet, he knows well how to rhyme, And he could throw a football at one time. A journalist who asked who what when where and why? The best damn fighter pilot in the sky!

First things first Schulzy is Dean of COM because the last one (Maitre) had to resign after plagiarising a speech (that's how we be rollin son). Then Schulz and his rhymes will make you smile because it means the end of the class, but he is the lamest poet after Ali G. Still DJ Schulz and MC Berkovitz be rockin that more auditorium, son. or not

Oh, Schulzie. This man should be Poet Laureate. Not only did he tell us the first lecture that basically any poetry that our generation will ever write will suck, but he has proven to us all that he is the GOD of rhyme, by reciting his personally penned poetry after EVERY lecture. Some days, I am moved to tears by the shear beauty of his genius. Shakespeare? More like SCHULZpeare. OMGZ LoL! p.s. he's a jerk

Pompous and arrogant. He thinks he is God's gift to COM. He is intelligent but he likes to make sure you know it a little too much. He also looks down on the students.

He himself is pompous and self-satisfied, although he sorta has a right to be. He IS rather well accomplished and smart. He usually chooses great lecturers, and the concept of the class has good intentions for us baby COMmies, but sometimes, eh, this class truly sucks. :)

COM 101 isn't required for COM majors, so don't take it if you don't like it. I liked my TA, but I dropped the class because the lectures were mostly really boring. No really, COM 101 isn't required. Ask around. Don't do it.

Looks threatening and can be a real pain with how he never shuts up about himself, but he's actually really nice. He knows COM is one of the best communications schools in the country and makes sure the students know what they're doing and that they're doing it the best they can.
