Absolutely the worst instructor I have ever had. It's the only instructor I ever went to the administration over, in 10 years of academic life. Unfortunately, I see they have reemployed him, so I'm rating him here to communicate one thing: STAY AWAY. His goal is to have you learn the information yourself, with no teaching from himself. Aweful!

This seemed like a great class to take, I was interested in learning more about Linux.. then I come to find out that Sechrest is completely incapable of teaching this class. He knows a lot about Linux but has no clue how to teach a class. The majority of the class was taught by students by posting on the class website and help from the TA's

This "teacher" (used that very loosely), is in a word, TERRIBLE. His condescending, belittling attitude towards students should not be allowed in a learning environment. I have not learned anything in his class. The class was very disorganized and instructions ambiguous. Save yourself a lot of stress. Don't take a class from him.

**DANGER** Absolute worst instructor ever had! Sarcastic responses to questions. His whole world is drupal/MLN. Uses classroom for experiments, then humiliates us. Says one thing/does another. Never returns papers. Instructions are ambigious. Only thing I learned is how bad an instructor can be. A waste of classroom dollars. Don't take his classes.

This is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. The way he runs his class leaves room for much question from the students. No one has any idea what they are doing. The class average for the midterm was VERY low because no one had any idea what they needed to study. I HIGHLY recommend NEVER taking a class from this guy. He should NOT be teaching!

terrible terrible terrible terrible terrible course (with john). it sounds all nice and fun until you actually get to the course....then you use drupal, and things just go downhill from there. My recommendation: bad. all there material is centered around mln, a program john created and wants to be good, but it is very user-unfriendly

Sechrest is ambiguos, his teaching style leaves something to be desired, and is very un-structured. However if you ever have a job in th realworld you will find that problems you must solve are fairly un-structured. John will buy you lunch though.

You can tell by his beer gut what Sechrest spends most of his time doing. I think it's obvious from the quality of the class that his time isn't spent preparing a lesson. Half the class time was spent with students complaining about the projects.
