Weekly quizzes contain obscure questions from information mentioned for about two seconds during class. Some quiz questions are based off of even more obscure assigned readings that are difficult to decipher for anyone that is not of an Anthropological background. I showed up to every lecture, studied hard, re-listened to Echos, yet still did bad.

if i could give him a worse rating i would. i do not recommend taking this class if there is a way around it. his quizzes and tests are all short answer and does not give partial credit for answers that are kind of close. he also tests you on random information said during a lecture. if you miss something odds are he will test you about it.

Though this professor does care about his field, he has difficulty conveying his knowledge clearly to his students. The exams are not good representations of the coursework. There is little room for error because there are 9m/c and 2 short answers on most exams and the short answers are all or none. No homework, but you should come to lecture.

He tests you on info he said for 2 seconds in class. Even if you rewatch the echo, I promise you will still miss "important" info for the exam. He's pretty funny though and is easily accessible in office hours.

I love Professor Shea and he is so funny. He makes the lectures interesting. The only problem is the only grades of the class are a midterm , final, and some homework. the homework is easy but is not on the test at all. He tests only on things he talked about in class. He doesn't post his lectures so you HAVE to go to class.

The midterm and final are the whole grade for the class besides the pointless homework that costs $75. It's a shame this class is a requirement for any type of anthropology major. He stresses that the tests are going to be on the most important material he covers in class, but puts random things he may have talked about for 2 seconds on the tests.

Shea's methods for teaching human origins are really awesome, you won't regret taking the class. He gives attendance checks on 100% randomly chosen dates - miss one and it's 3 points off your average. You get a take home quiz and the textbook is tiny and costs $5. As long as you go to class, you'll get all the material you need for the tests.

He's a great archaeologist and makes his class and lectures very fun and interesting! There's little homework and tests are fairly easy. Go to the lectures and pay attention and you'll get an A easily!

HIs grading policy is unfair. The class average at the end of the course was a 68 which was a C-. The curve does not benefit those who do well at all. I have never heard of a 100-level course in which you need a 95 to get an A. His classes are extremely boring. No lectures up on blackboard just notes made by the TA's. Exams are hard and specific.

He seems passionate about his work but BEWARE - this class is utterly BORING! Except for the one lecture where he makes stone tools... Other than that, utterly, utterly boring. The boring-ness of the class makes you not want to pay attention. I struggle to do so sometimes. Spend your DEC F somewhere else if you can.

Professor Shea is really awesome and very knowledgeable about Archaeology. He demonstrated how to make stone tools in class and showed us videos. TAs took notes and the textbook/homework is a CD, so going to class is basically a review. STILL GO TO CLASS, THOUGH. Not an easy A, as the exams are pretty tricky if you don't put in the work and study.

As long as you show up most of the time, it's impossible to do badly in this class. I'm taking it for a major, but it makes an easy DEC and he's usually pretty funny during lectures, though sometimes his jokes fall flat. Don't come up to him after class, it bugs him, but hes very helpful during office hours, and very excited about his work.

This class is brutal. Do not take it for a DEC. The midterm is straight from the notes but the questions are worded in a way that you don't understand. No reviews, homework, 1 midterm, and a final. Cool guy but do not take this class unless you want a horrible GPA.

I am not sure of his particular teaching style but he does A LOT of talking. No powerpoints, no review sheet, nothing. It's all on you to go to class & take the right notes. He also side tracks with his storytelling so it throws you off as to what's important and what isn't! Overall, just listen. In the end, I just hated this class.

This class is really easy for DEC or for major. You just HAVE to attend lectures cause the TA notes will make no sense to you if you don't and try to study them. His stories are funny so just go. If you consider this class hard you have other problems. Final is same questions from 2 midterms plus a few new ones. Do all homeworks and on time!!!

I went into this class expecting an easy A to boost my GPA and ended up getting a B-. In the beginning of the semester he warns you that if you don't attend the lectures you'll do poorly on the test, so just go. I started skipping after doing really well on the first test and ended up bombing the second one. Attend class, lectures are interesting.

His class USED to be an easy A, but NOW he changed up the way he grades things and got much harder. Taking organic chemistry calc and bio, THIS class killed my GPA. I dont recommend taking this class at all, unless you are an Anthropology major

Honestly this guy was really easy its just hard to stay awake in class because sometimes the material is really really boring but it is really easy all you have to do is study the TA's notes and on top of that the final is comprised of questions from the previous midterms word for word this guy is really cool too
