This course is like listening to your dad talk about movies he loved, then watching it. There's no real content to the "lecture", the course is definitely an easy A (joke of a class, zero difficulty), not even close to 300 level, and he wrote his own textbook - which is all subjective reiteration of the plot. Watch the movie, peruse his notes, A+.

Nice prof. Not difficult to get a good grade in if you do all the assignments & put mild effort in them. All exams sans the final are open-note so take good notes bc it helps. There are 2 papers & presentations, individual & group. Not difficult as he's pretty generous if you give it a solid try. Write a lot on journals & try to tie it to concepts.

Much harder than it needed to be but not a bad class. The movies change by semester so you could get a really sick list of movies or a really bad one. Need to buy a textbook he wrote. There was like 14 quizzes and 1 film response all worth 12 points and he drops one quiz. Some extra credit given for staying and watching a film. Quizzes werent easy

By far the worst professor I have ever had at WVU. I got a 79.8 in his class and he refused to bump it up to a C. Class is graded on a quiz every week based on movies from the week before. There is no point in watching the actual movie because all he cares about is the minute details in the synopsis of the movie in a book he makes you buy he wrote

Watch a 2 hour movie 16 times and take 16 quizzes. Quizzes are not easy sometimes. and sometimes they are Read the Film notes for sure, watch the movies because he asks questions about certain things that you will only know by watching the movie. 2 papers in this class as well. fairly easy, hes very lenient on the grading on them too. GRAMMAR

If you watch the movies, read his online notes, and read the textbook you will do great in this class. The readings are all very short. This class requires little work and is only once a week. He is a mild mannered older man who loves "flicks".

Its a once a week class which at the being of each class you will have to take a 12 question quiz on a movie you have perviously watched. You must watch the movie, read the text book, and understand names of actors and actress to pass. I usally dont stay and watch the movie in class i like to download and watch the movie at home.

Horrible class. The weekly quizzes were very complicated. Some questions on the quizzes are not from the movies, film notes, or online film notes so there is no way to know the answer. Do yourself a favor and do not take this class.

Not a bad class, films watched in class are sometimes boring. I watched about 3 of them out of 13, I just read the notes on the movie provided in the text book and managed to keep a B. Attendance is 100% mandatory since there is a test on a movie every single week. Class points come only from tests and 1 paper you must write pertaining to a movie.

John is a wonderful and lovable guy! His class may not be the most interesting to some, but if you are a movie buff you will enjoy it and find it to be a breeze. I will always remember John Shibley for his great, and sometimes emotional, introductions to the movie that the class is about to watch. Attendance is vital to success on quizzes!

He reminds me of a grandpa! so cute..and very nice and knowledgable. I think the movies are very interesting and the info. he shares is helpful for quizzes. Awesome class to take and an easy A!

Pretty easy class. You have to come to class at the beginning because he gives quizzes on the previous week's movies. I rarely stayed for the movies since I had seen most of them before. Just make sure you read any lecture outline and the film notes right before the quiz and you'll be fine.
