If you love chemistry, you need to take Dr. Sibert for honors gen chem. He teaches concepts, not facts to memorize, and really pushed us to think. The lectures were entertaining and engaging. He genuinely cares about his students learning, and loves to discuss concepts/questions after class. It wasn't an easy class, but I would 10/10 recommend.

Though he goes on a lot of tangents (A LOT) he really cares about his students. He held weekly workshops for us and even though they are late at night and about 2 hours long, I would definitley reccomend going. It gives him enough time to get through his tangents and eventually get to the material. Overall a good professor.

Dr. Sibert was a great teacher for honors chem and he really cared about the topic. He did go over every single detail (and did have many humorous, off-topic digressions), so pick another prof if you just want the info. Exams were generally easy, just do some practice problems and read over his notes he posts. He responds to emails fast!

This class was alright. Not as hard as other classes, but also not super easy. The lectures were a bit dry and halfway through the semester I started taking the minimum amount of notes, but Dr. Sibert is very knowledgeable and he truly wants you to succeed. I recommend taking him because you will learn.

Teaches concepts. You can tell he is passionate about teaching, and he will always be available to help you out if you don't understand anything. While some profs take days to respond to emails, Dr. Sibert will probably respond within minutes if he sees it. I can't recommend him enough for chem 1.

Dr. Sibert is a knowledgeable man l, but he cannot teach. When he teaches a topic, he tries to connect it with the real world and goes on tangents, instead of emphasizing the importance of the material. To get a good grade in the class you're better off studying the book. Also, he is always behind from other classes and teaches material last minute

I went to 3 lectures total. Lectures dont make any sense, Ive never met a student that goes to them and understands what he says. Abstracts chemistry to where you cant apply any concepts to test. Most people skip his class and go to another or just read textbook. Can pass class by just reading textbook, but take anyone else instead.

He is a great professor, and makes you love Chemistry. He teaches the topics in depth as he cares about the concept other than exam questions. He also takes attendance often. The only concern I have is that he teaches new materials a day before the exam. Other than that, he is a great professors for those who enjoy Chemistry.

I hated chem with Dr. Sibert. He goes off on so many tangents and then doesn't spend enough time teaching. He'll sometimes teach new material the day before the test and not finish the lesson. ALEKS was ridiculous as well, it didn't help me at all.

He seems like a knowledgeable man, which he is, but sadly doesn't show it during lecture. He's a great person but could be a better lecturer. Talks about his life and goes off on tangents a lot. Says some pretty strange things which is what kept me interested most of the time. Chemistry is hard and just bc he's easy going don't let it fool you.

Dr. Sibert is amazing, he is very articulate and is available to help students whenever he is in his office, which is often. His notes are detailed, though slightly confusing if out of context. Lectures are not mandatory but beneficial.

Gen Chem 1 sucked with Prof. Sibert. He just talks about nothing during lecture and it's not helpful at all for the exam. I had to teach myself the entire course with the textbook, PLTL, ALEKS, and my friends. It made no difference on my exam scores if I didn't go to class.

I know a ton of people love Sibert, but I just have to disagree. He's consistently late then holds the class over to "make sure you get all the lecture time you're paying for", he goes on long tangents about his life rather than the material, and since your class is always behind he crams 3 classes into the one right before the exam.

sibert is able to pack a lot of information into a short period of time, explains well and is able to keep us interested with funny anecdotes. he isn't very structured in his teaching but all you really need are his notes. he is very accessible and really tries to accommodate your needs. having taken ap chem before going to his class will help.

sibert is great for classes that you already have outside knowledge on. i took his CV honors gen chem class and if you've taken ap chem, then take gen chem w/him because it won't be too bad. also pay attention in class and go see him outside of class if you need to. he likes to talk though so get ready for that.

His lectures are very well planned and thought through, and he gives lots of examples. He's also super approachable and helpful during office hours and over email. However, there's a decent chance he'll be out of town when you need him, so make sure you get any questions answered as soon as possible. Gen chem will be time-consuming no matter what.

Positives: extremely devoted to chemistry, very humorous, interesting lectures, student friendly and accessible. Negatives: goes on tangents(humorous ones), doesn't teach you everything you need to know (teaches the big picture), will require you to put in extra work outside of class, lectures are not very structured. I recommend, not for every1.

Sibert is an amazing lecturer that sprinkles humor into his lessons to make otherwise dry topics interesting. His passion for the subject is clearly evident and he tries to relate learning material to real life examples to help his students better understand what they're learning. Would definitely take another class he teaches in a heartbeat.

Chemistry in itself wasn't a hard class. However, if you take Sibert, you'll make your life harder. His lectures aren't half bad but if you want to do good on the class, you need to take a lot of time outside of lecture and teach yourself.
