He is a great teacher who truly knows the material. His office hours are very helpful, his homework assignments are old/future exams (So they are very helpful) and there is only one homework a week. His lectures can be hard to be enthralled by if you do not care about the material, but as the year goes on you certainly adjust to it.

Prof Stranlund gives very straightforward lectures that are easy to understand. The content itself can be a little bland during the first part of the class, but he does a good job teaching it. He is awesome about clearing up points of confusion. Homework and exams come right from class material so they're fairly easy.

John has been my favorite teacher at UMass. He puts all the slides online and homeworks/test questions are straight from the slides so the book isnt necessary. You dont have to go to class, but hes such a great guy that you wont want to skip. He makes sure everyone understands lectures, encourages office hours and posts all homework solutions.

Don't take this class. Homework assignments are easy but tests, which are 75 percent of the grade, are ridiculous. This is a gen ed class, but it is not easy even to get a B. I am an A student but ended up with a C+ in this class. It is way too difficult, so only take if it is required and good luck with that.

John is kind of misunderstood. His lectures are long and the material is dry, but he is such a sweet and helpful guy! I really didn't like the class at the beginning of the semester, but after I started going to his office hours I got 80% and above on all the homework and tests. He really wants kids to learn, his lectures are just boring

The class is easy, so long as you pay attention. Tests can be really tough for many students. Most of what is said in class is in the textbook, which makes the textbook not impossible to survive without but pretty helpful. Many students did struggle in this class.

Super easy A and actually kind of interesting as long as you apply yourself and survive his boring voice. 3 exams and 1012 graded home works. That's it.

Honestly the worst class ever. Easy homework, brutal exams. Exams are 75% of your grade. Doesn't speak loud in class. The most boring lectures I have ever sat through in my entire college career.

I enjoyed this class, but I wouldn't take it if you're not really interested in the subject. It is going to be incredibly boring if you don't care about what he's saying. Tests and homework questions come straight from his lectures. I didn't open the textbook- just write verbatim what it says in his slides.

Exam questions come straight from lecture notes and problem sets. Problem set answers come straight from lecture notes. No need to read the textbook. Going to class is not needed. John is an awesome guy, really passionate about the subject and his students. He'll really help during office hours. He's soft spoken, sit in the front.

Good class to take. John is passionate. Subject matter will be boring for most, and the economics aspect of the course is very easy for anyone who took micro. 6 homeworks out of 8 graded, 3 tests. That's it. Lecture isn't mandatory and most skip but I recommend going if you care about the subject at all. Most of what I learned new was through questions people asked during lecture.

Really easy class. The lectures are pretty boring, but he posts them all online so you don't really need to go to class. The homework is literally right of the slides, which are pretty self explanatory and the tests are really easy if you study the slides. Good class, good and funny guy too who really cares about the subject as well.

He is one of the best professors. Very fair. Very clear. Very helpful!! He's always there to help. His homework only helps supplement the material. You don't really need to book, but it helps clarifies a little bit. Most of his exams are based on homework and power points. He's awesome and very inspiring!

Okay... so I just had Res econ 262 with him last semester.. here's what you have to do if you want an A... do not go to class, do not even bother with the book. Study the lectures that he posts online and do 8 homework assignments he gives out .. they only take ten minutes to do. Just study that material and you'll be set.
