He is an amazing person. Great sense of humor, really humble and intelligent. In short, one of the best professors Marquette has had in a very long time. I would not have passed if he hadn't helped me. He is my favorite professor I have ever had.

Great and engaging professor, you will want to go to his classes! His papers are graded hard, but you improve over the semester becoming a better writer. People seem to either love or hate, but the majority seem to love. I suggest you take the course. TL;DR love or hate him, engaging, interesting, tough grader, helps you improve as a writer

He taught an interesting graphic novel class over the summer. He's a very enthusiastic professor and this class had discussion, along with a few papers and a presentation. I don't know about his other classes, but this one was certainly a fun one!

Bland and uninteresting to say the least. If you agree with everything he says, you'll do well, but he doesn't handle dissent gracefully. Typical privileged elitist who has no conception of the real world experiences of the writers he tries to teach.

John was an arrogant and condescending professor who swore frequently to explain his arguments. He was completely unprofessional and I dreaded going to his class. He refused to give out A's on papers, and it seemed as though he had assigned paper grades before they were even written. I detested John Su and I am so happy to be done with his class.

John Su is the first professor in my educational career where I felt I got the most out of my money. He is engaging, interesting & extremely knowledgeable. Having said that, this class is not for people who are looking for an easy grade. This is a class for people who want to learn a different way of looking at English & aren't afraid to work hard.

I'm not into English - I'm a science major - but his class is AWESOME! It's difficult but if you pay attention and take advantage of the help he gives you, you'll become a fantastic writer and you'll look at literature in a completely different way. There's not mch homework, but essays worth tons of points that are tough but he helps you alot!

Definitely a hard class, but worth it. You either love him or hate him, and most come to appreciate him after the class is over. Your writing will improve greatly with his help. Definitely my favorite prof at MU thus far. He's funny, lively, engaging,and incredibly intelligent. His lectures are always interesting, especially since he likes to connect his points to movies and pop culture or random trivia. He really tries to get you to do better and to improve your writing, but makes you work really hard for an A.

I hate to burst everyone's bubble here, but either you love John Su, or you hate him. There's no middle ground. I found that he didn't like my writing style, and even worse, only tried to help me change it to something that HE liked. Take your chances with this guy-- if he doesn't enjoy the way you write, look out!
