Comment:
Very engaging and funny teacher. Dr. Sullins presents material in a way that makes learning very easy. He lectures with directly applicable examples and loves to crack nerdy jokes every now and then. For homework projects and tests, Sullins outlines clearly what you need to know and assigns projects that apply those concepts.

Had Dr. Sullins for the "Java" class as it's known at YSU. I was really intimidated going in, but he made sure we all knew Java wasn't hard to do, and gave plenty of time to get used to it before we were graded. Has lots of funny references in class to a bunch of older shows, started off groaning every joke, by the end I loved it. Would take again.

Homework is the majority of the class and although you get instructions; I find them vague. I've tried getting help via his office hours, but he doesn't really seem to help or care that much. Only way you'll pass is either work together with a student(s) or if you already are a great programmer. Tough grader for the tests too.

I had sullins for 2 classes, 3701 and encoding and encryption. He was fine in both. Makes funny references during lectures which makes it more interesting. You should go to class because he sometimes hints to what is going to be on tests/homework. Do your homework ahead of time because sometimes it's time consuming.

He is funny, which makes lectures awesome. His tests are a bit difficult but they're not weighted heavily, and the assignments are straight-forward. He even puts video tutorials online, so it's as though you have a sample lecture later to help you use his software. He is generally a nice guy and fun to learn from.

Tests are difficult with little review material and are graded very harshly. The book is worthless in this course; he doesn't even cover anything in it. The projects are worse of all - he doesn't go over any of the code in them at all and hardly touches on concepts. Unless you're already an amazing programmer, you will struggle in this course.

Expects students to do too much on their own. not all the students are super geniouses like him, and he degrades them for it. Don't take him.

Good teacher. Funny and really trys to get you to understand to topic. I wouldn't mind if he gave harder exams. Sometimes the exams seem too easy.

Had him for 610, CSCI 710, and Discrete Mathematics. He's very geeky and loves to make everything about Bevis and Butthead, The Simpsons, or the (in his eyes esteemed) Gallenger. Fun for all, he a prof at the top of his game. However, don't be mad if he doesn't help with the final "Object Oriented" project . . . "it's your internal representation."

I could never decide whether his classes were too easy, or he's just that good of a teacher. I think it's a little of both. Take him for whatever you can, he's one of the best in the CSCI department.
