Professor showed partiality to certain students over others. Students who did not come to class, only did one assignment and did not take tests shared that they received an A in the class, while others who attended regularly, took all tests, turned in all assignments were given lower grades. Strict guidelines were overlooked for some students. Sad.

I was super excited to take his class. Very disappointed in the out come. One person in class must have been a genius, only came to class three times, claimed they didn't turn in one of the assignments they got an A, while some of us that attended regularly and turned in everything got C's . Huge disappointment.

There was NO textbook for this course and was written solely by him. Lacked real structure. Chapter's were usually 16 pages long. The whole course was based on quizzes, tests and one 2-3 page paper. He gave the class the option of ONE extra credit paper, that's it. Not enough extra credit opportunities for students who need it.

You get exactly what you put into the class. If you read the textbook, participate in class and include all the information he's asking for in your essays, then you get an A. If you don't, you might find yourself with a C. Yes, the class is paper and exam heavy, but it isn't anything out of the ordinary for a 3000 level class.

3 exams total. 2 two-page papers. 2 "class papers". TALK IN HIS CLASS YOU'LL GET AN A. He has weekly quizzes that you wont pass unless you read, but they're super simple and 5 questions. Make sure your short answers on the exams are 3-4 sentences and more than a paragraph on long answers .

He writes little notes on the board, but he does try to relate it to real life to make it understandable and you just write down what you please and as you please. He gives quizzes that come straight from the chapter and then corrects the quizzes and gives them back and puts those exact questions on your test with some essay questions.

Probably the best professor I have ever had. He's pretty chill and his test aren't that hard. Just study the study guides and you will deff pass the class. If your struggling to get a assignment done, just talk to him and he will move the assignment date up.

We have a couple group projects and really long lectures (not that you'll even take notes) just study the study guide he gives out and do the projects and you'll get an A. We had a bunch of quizzes at the beginning of the semester and they were multiple choice, I red the book so they were easy. My friend didn't and he got an F. Seriously. Read it.

I would suggest Sumser for any class he offers! Best way to get a good grade is rly simple; PARTICIPATE IN CLASS DISCUSSIONS, use his study guides THEY WORK for quizzes and exams so DO THEM, exams are easy, mult choice is all the weekly quizzes he gives(copy+pasted over), short answers are easy, IF he asks for long answers, write a page. Hes nice!

I took Sumser in Summer for my WP course. He is dry but he is a minimalist. He likes to keep it simple and straight to the point. He does not like fluff and he has a lot of stories from when he was in the Peace Corps. He required an 8 pg paper by the end of the course. Seems tough but really he is easy going.

This cours is easy with Dr. Sumser. He gives quizes of chapter, then each exam he gives is from the previous quizzes he gave out. Not hard, just save your quizzes and you'll pass the course.

He mostly lectures for the first half of the semester, then there's a midterm, then about a month of group presentations (the presentations have to cover two class periods). A few shorts papers...I really enjoyed the class. I learned a lot.

I took this for a GE requirement; Sumser lectured mostly, we watched a few movies and had to submit a final group term paper.

He is a fun person to listen to. He has lots of stories to tell, but they have little to do with the lectures. He dis likes Obama, and shows it. On the essays he'd give me a failing grade and not explain why. Might be a good class for a Comm major, but if you're not, take another WP Course, like Business.

Take any classes you can with him! He talks and talks and talks and all you have to do is listen. Very inspiring teacher with insight to so many things. Makes you question the world you live in and is very understanding if you are struggling in school. Great teacher, great person, amazing classroom experience. Take him while you can.

Had him for the WP course in the summer. Held my interest, if you couldn't do well in this class, then you probably aren't a dedicated student. He was very fair, had related comical stories. Highly recommend.

Dry, sarcastic sense of humor. Uses analogies from his personal life to relate course material into practical application. Taking this course with John was one of the best decisions I ever made.

Might be one of the few times Sumser did not use a text book in his course. Confusing in the beginning of the semester, including the first assignment. Course seemded to pick up after awhile and became much more interesting. Sumser brings humor into his lectures which makes his classes fun. Quality of lectures show a high level of preparation.
