Comment:
DO NOT TAKE HIM HE IS THE WORST PROF I HAVE EVER HAD. He only talks about sustainability and doesn't teach anything marketing related. If you make it through 1 or 2 slides a day you are doing good. He is condescending and his test are hard. You have to read the book if you want to pass. AVOID AT ALL COST YOU LITERALLY WONT LEARN ANYTHING FROM HIM.

I feel like I'm in a science class. He talks all about sustainability and nothing about marketing. The class is a massive group paper, which is impossible because if you mess up a single part of the paper he gives you a 5/10. Nothing to do with Marketing, but a class you have to pass to graduate. Worst experience I have ever had sitting in class.

If you have to take MKG 310, do NOT take it with this professor. He not only fails to teach you the essentials of consumer behavior, but manages to turn the class into a sustainability class. The class is based off 4 tests (20% each) and a group project (20%) which is a project assigned over getting consumers to adopt sustainable behaviors. Awful!

He does not do a good job preparing you for his tests. He lectures over things that will not be on the test and gets off topic very often. The only materials you have are very basic power points and the book.

John leads a discussion based class. There are days we would have the power point up and not cover a single thing. He is extremely lenient on weekly summaries. If you listen to what he says and participate, you will pass. There are only a few tests, which come from power points that he eventually talks about.

He tends to just talk, which is great and really interesting, but we it's hard to tell what will be on the test. He puts power points online but they are kind of hard to follow. I love the teacher, and he is super smart, but you can tell he'd rather do discussion than teach from a syllabus. There is no textbook

He goes off topic and doesn't teach anything about marketing. He only talks about his environmental views, sustainability, and greenhouse gases. The tests are mainly from the book, which you'll have to read and learn yourself. He only has powerpoints and takes nothing from them for the tests.

Not a very good teacher he goes off topic every class and tells stories. He thinks he funny and is not. All he talks about is his environmental views. I learned more from the book than from him. I would avoid him if you can.

He's a great person with a lot of passion for Sustainability.. however... No textbook, No assignments, very small extra credit opportunities and only 3 tests. This class is HARD! I had little to no knowledge of science or sustainability, but I worked my butt off for a C-. Go to class everyday, and review his power points religiously!

Horrible Teacher, Doesn't make own slides, Skips over content, Tells "stories" and gets off topic a lot. The material he lectures over is not on his tests, tests are longer than class time allotted. Avoid

The whole class is basically one big group assignment. He grades assignments very harshly. Got VERY high grades on both tests and still didn't get an A in the class. Be ready to hear about sustainability nonstop. He told us to drop out of school to do something about global warming.

Dr. Vann knows a lot. He didn't use the book to teach but his experience. He is very helpful if you have any question, just go and talk to him. His tests are not easy but if you read the book carefully, you'll be fine.

Pretty bad professor. Uses slides that the textbook provides. Tells horrible stories most of class and really doesn't teach you much. Talks about his stupid sustainability stuff most of class and skips teaching the material. Nice guy, just not a good professor. Sure he would be a great sustainability professor though. Avoid.

A very hard class with a lot of busy work. You are only allowed to miss 2 classes for the semester. He is very liberal and relates much of the class to environmentalism. He is a quality person that provides a tough class. There is potential to get a lot out of this class with a lot of hard work.

John Vann is concerned about what he is teaching but thats about it. He wants studen to listen and wants them to focus on the topic, but he gives no notes, there is no book. he rarely responds to e-mails and when he does he is very short. I have been confused and playing catch up and my grade suffered due to lack of study material

John Vann is probably the single most dedicated teacher I've ever had. I was a grad student in the cognitive/social psych MA program and took this capstone class just because it looked so rad. Vann is working on birthing a new paradigm - Ball State is slowly catching on. Viva John Vann!

I was a marketing major and loved the topic. I couldn't stand him. This is a captstone course and he used it to push his hippie/extreme liberal views on the students. This is marketing and he tested us over environmentalism.....and not as a marketing strategy or concerning, just environmentalism. This was years ago. I hope he climbed off his soap-box, but I am sure he is even worse now.
