I was not a huge fan of Professor Narayan. In fact, I contribute my success in the class solely to my wonderful TA. The lectures were not organized well, difficult to understand, and not a huge part of the exams. I barely read at all (didn't even read two of the books) but learned the vocab so I got an A. Very friendly and outgoing professor. Can be unclear with her examples used in lectures/lectures can be boring. Be prepared to work hard in the class as it is a lot of reading. Tests are multiple choice but very difficult (especially the final!).

Not an easy A. Especially for science majors - have to do a lot of dull readings and analysis. The TAs control too much of the grade. That being said, there is a term sheet provided that pretty much covers the entire exam. But lecture notes are not posted.

Extremely nice, relatively organized, really tried to keep students engaged. Class was weighted towards India, but guest lectures shook things up. Readings didn't relate directly to lectures, but with a little thought, connections could be made. Seemingly hard on the surface but with some effort, an easy A. I would recommend the class and professor

This professor is so nice but I thought the class got a little boring. The readings are extremely interesting but don't seem to match up with lecture. There is a paper and two exams. For the exams she gives you a list of terms that were hardly touched in lecture or discussion.

Prof. Narayan is one of the best professors I had at the UW. She is just as cool as the rest of the cultural (NOT the bio or arch. ones) anthro professors. But she has a ease to her teaching styles that makes learning easy.
