After twelve years of being out of school, I was scheduled to take classes taught by JY for teacher certification. He was kind and went out of his way to help me understand concepts that were foreign to me. His lectures were a breath of fresh air and his sense of humor brought joy to a class that might otherwise have been boring.

I was a student in one of Yozzo's first classes at ECU. He was young, determined to make his mark and very challenging! He showed a fierce resolve to hone Occam's Razor to as fine an edge as possible. If you couldn't think for yourself and express your ideas clearly at the start of the class, he did his best to make you by the end!

Comment:

World History, Linguistics, Composing. Best Professor I've ever had at East Central (...about 6 years ago...) He is laid back, hates people that try to kiss ass and is a no-nonsense type of professor. He might be hard to follow at times, but he will FORCE you to think for yourself, which I appreciated. Ask him about kicking field goals barefoot!

Yozzo is my favorite professor ever. He's hilarious, and although he gets off subject more than he teaches the scheduled lessons, it's worth it to hear his rants. He cares about his students, in his own weird way, and will help them whenever needed. If you have a sense of humor you will probably enjoy his class.

A former student, I hold JY responsible for much of my angst, a few of my near-death experiences, 75% of my most delicious wild-side walks, and a couple of death-defying adventures. "Brilliant" is insufficient. JY is (or was!) the model tortured genius. Learn all you can from him, but live your life wide open, as tortured geniuses often can't.
