Comment:

As context, I do well in bio classes and classes that require a lot of memorization. The powerpoints alone were enough for studying, most of which I did the night before and day of. It's challenging to get an A but doable if you do amazing on the 3 exams during the semester, giving you more leeway on the final. If you do not test well, be cautious.

Comment:

I'm not sure if he's changed his teaching style since 2016 but I didn't relate to the experiences most of his students had at that time. I tried my hardest, studying for hours, and I still felt lost throughout. I tried going to him and was shrugged off. This was the most difficult class I've taken and the most defeated I've ever felt in college.

Rushes thru lectures. Clicker questions r difficult. I knew students who were receiving A's had a sly way to do it because the tests were 30q and impossible to pass! Read the textbook before each lecture and understood the quizzes still was not able to pass. Resources are terrible. Tells you to email him w questions. Don't expect help or a response

His tests are only 30 qstns and I cant imagine how I would pass this class if I didn't have copies of his past exams. He drops 1 test and thinks b/c he cuts off the A at 90 and A+ at 95 that he's already gone too far. But here's the thing, his weight is so bad. My 3 tests were 29, 29, 28 and I got a 50 on the final. Got an A-, how ridic is that??

Comment:

Only went to class to answer the clicker questions as I usually didnt follow what was going on in class and just learned on my own. Important to take screenshots of the clicker questions to solve and understand later. Complete and understand all of the quizzes on canvas. Understand HW as well. All of these things helped to get an A. Work hard!

Comment:

A good prof encourages students to get excited about learning. I felt prepared for every test bc the study material he gave was relatively easy, I read the book, studied in advance,did the hws,and still could not pass. Overall test class avg. of 300+ students was C's and D's. Most students I spoke to were lost and disappointed w the class.

Dr. El Rady as a person seems cool and funny. As a professor however, I wouldnt take him ever again. His tests are very very tricky and question if you even studied for the right class sometimes. Its very very demanding when it doesnt need to be, its hard to manage esp when youre taking another class like Orgo.

By far the worst professor at USF. Hes been teaching for so many years that it is clear he should retire. His class is barely do able, assigns over 300qs in hw before each exam. & Not to mention connect hw is from the textbook while his lectures do not use the textbook. When you ask for help, he seems annoyed and not helpful.

Dr. El-Rady is really a nice guy, he is an encouraging professor that wants you to succeed. That is until he gives you the exam, he claims that the material he gives is easy. The thing is that the examples he gives in class are 1. confusing at best and 2. much easier than the ones on the actual exam. I had a 4.0 before this and this was my first B.

Tests had material that was never discussed and were extremely difficult! During lectures the material will be explained in one way and then tested differently. Readings were assigned but the material on the test did not agree with the readings. Not consistent. Does not email back. Makes genetics harder than it needs to be. RUN!

The students, who were doing well, were taking him for a second time. Reads directly from powerpoints. MEET sessions (which are supposed to help) are misleading. Be prepared to memorize everything and be tested on material thats much harder than what he reads off the powerpoints in class. This class is important. You will NOT succeed w this prof!

He has a very lazy style of lecturing and he just reads from slides. I love biology, but he couldn't keep my attention. His exams could be a bit challenging, but if you study hard you'll do fine. Attendance is mandatory (clickers) and there's a ton of online homework. For those who can attend office hours and MEET sessions, I've heard they're good.

I will rave about Dr. El-Rady forever. Genetics is super hard but he gives a lot of practice material for the exams and really cares about the success of his students. Hes always cracking jokes and his lectures are very interesting. Hes been teaching general genetics for 20+ years so he knows what hes doing. love him.

Four exams (no final), multiple quizzes, discussion forum, LearnSmart activities, and two homeworks (difficult!). Genetics is a lot of work so you have to work hard for it. He cares a lot about his students and is very caring. Definately attend his M.E.E.T sessions if you can since he tells you the basic guidelines for the exam there.

So much material and memorization!!!! By no means and easy upper level elective. El-rady is great but truncated test material was still 400+ slides. It's a mixed class with graduate students, only difference is grad students have to do a presentation but take the same exams. For undergrad students the final is worth 45% of grade and it was rough!!

I took Dr. El-Rady for Human Genetic and General Genetics. He has to be one of the most passionate, intelligent professors I have had during my undergraduate career. You have to know a lot of material for his exams, but he makes this easy by truncating his lecture slides. Very easy to talk to and truly cares about his student.

Medical mycology for undergrad. His exams are not weighted equally. 2 midterms and then a final. Highest midterm grade is 30%, lower one is 20%, 25 for attendance, 3% for critiquing a paper and then final is 45%!!!. Took him online for genetics. I was nervous about taking genetics online but it has been super easy. Tests are multiple choice and are a mix between problems and conceptual stuff. His lectures are pretty straightforward and lighthearted. He basically tells you what is going to be on the test during his reviews. I definitely recommend.
