He's single-handedly responsible for the creation of my interest in soil mechanics. Incredibly knowledgeable, cares about student learning, and has genuinely engaging lectures. He's also rather funny, and keeps classes interesting.

The course should have been super boring but he won't let you realize it hhh. He is a very interesting person himself and he is really trying to help you do well in this course. We have two profs teaching different sections this term. From such comparison, believe me, he knows how to explain things clearly.

Dr. Fannin is really the BEST prof in civil engineering. He knows what he is doing and he highly experienced and informed about geotechnical engineering. I am impressed with how well he executed the class given the fact it has not been taught for 10 years. Honestly, if you have a strong interest in earth dams and geotechnical engineering take it!

Comment:
Fannin is one of those special few professors that can make a boring subject like soil mechanics tolerable. The midterms have a reputation for being hard, but most people don't do the optional problem sets he assigns. If you do the problem sets you'll be fine. The labs take an lot of time to finish so plan ahead.

He is challenging but still great. His midterms were a killer but he pushes you to try harder for his final. He makes soils interesting and his lectures are a MUST attend!!! If you have any questions just ask him because he will make sure you understand the concepts. I would recommend taking this class when he teaches it.

CIVL 210 is so basic. It's Fannin's world though. He tries to make it difficult, but a two year old can understand soil mechanics concepts.

Great prof. One of the best teachers I've ever had. He explains everything clearly and concisely. He also does a great job of demonstrating the relevance of the material. Unlike a lot of profs he also cares about his students. Easily approachable for extra help prior to exams and for homework.

He is an authority in soil mechanics. Excellent prof with a capital "E". The best style of teaching in Civil Eng Dep. I enjoyed taking this course more than any other 2nd or 3rd yr courses. The midterm was fairly easy. The final exam was very challenging though.
