COME ON--you major in MUSIC and whine when Helton asks you to practice and learn scales? Ger real, guys. Ignore all the stupid comments here. Helton is one of the most advanced and respected saxophonists in the country. If you practice and do what you need to do he will make you a great player. Why SHOULDN'T he get onto you when you don't do work?

I can't believe the negative comments here!!! Helton is amazing. Great teacher, great performer, great guy. I have a feeling those who are whining on here didn't practice enough. He won't hold your hand, but if you do what he says you'll become an amazingly better musician. And the scales are not that bad, and they make you better so why complain?

Ignore any negative opinions. Helton is one of the most respected saxophonists in America and he is extremely talented, intelligent, and insightful. If he is rude to you, it's because you're not working hard enough. If you practice there will be no problem. He does expect a lot, because he learned from the best! (Hemke)

He will tell you you're terrible and make you cry. If you don't practice, he will physically kill you. Otherwise, just do what he says and practice and you'll get an A. Be prepared to lose all of your self esteem, though.

Great teacher, scales are not as bad as people say. If you do what he tells you to do, you will see singnificant improvements in your playing ability. Other students are just lazy and dont put enough time into practicing. Very nice, and understanding of your problems. He will get on you if you are messing up on your part, but that is a good thing.
