Comment:
While the lectures/class discussions were usually quite interesting, he assigned an unreasonable amount of reading, and consistently would assign work that was not on the syllabus, and then be unclear about when that work was actually due, or how it needed to be submitted. In general, his explanations of assignments were sorely lacking.

He's a really nice guy, and I really enjoyed his classes, but he's really strict about missing classes. Someone had a death in the family, and it was a struggle to get him to allow her a week of absences.

Harder professor but worth taking his course because you learn a great deal and improve your French if you're attentive and put in the work. Be prepared to do you reading with him--discussions are heavily on the reading. When you haven't read, he'll know, but he'll still try to include you in the discussion. Very helpful during office hours.

He has the most beautiful voice I've ever heard speak french. I would take his class all over again just to hear him speak french to me. He's kind, patient, and uses more modern ways of teaching french. He's WONDERFUL.

I was really interested in the subject matter, but I felt that a lot of our discussions and lectures were too simplified and watered down. It's hard to have great discussions in a foreign language, but I never really felt challenged in class. I was disappointed, because I loved the non-textbook readings. I liked the field trip.

Since this was an advanced class, there was a ton of reading and it was mostly discussion. The topic (colonialism) was not the most fascinating, but he used a lot of different sources to make it interesting (images, songs, movies, etc.). We took a field trip, which was fun, and he brought us scones. Overall, not my favorite class, but not too bad.

I often felt like we had a lot of busy work and that I was in a high school class. He really likes to write on the board and hear himself speak, which is kind of ok since he has a good accent, but sort of frustrating when the students are the ones who need to work on their pronunciation. He is pretty approachable and nice all in all.

I love his class. Not too hard, but you still learn a lot. Variety of assignments. He's very organized, patient, good-humored, and he knows his stuff, but in a way that's helpful.

I really appreciated how he had us take field trips to the Amherst and Smith art museums. The time we went to Amherst was on a Saturday morning, and he brought us scones and encouraged us to bring along coffee for the ride. He's definitely interested in your thoughts when you write papers and is a fairly easy grader.

fairly easy and always organized. reminds me of a difficult highschool course rather than a college one, as there's so many minor quizzes and homework. he is also goodlooking, which helps.

Always allowed us to turn a paper in again to raise our grade, and if he sees you put a lot of work into the revisions, he'll raise it quite a bit. Most of the topics were interesting. He also speaks fairly slowly :o)
