Comment:
Had Prof. Ribner for a course on Impressionism and absolutely loved him. I have had him previously in a larger lecture class as well. He is incredibly knowledgable on the subject he teaches, and offers a large amount of background context that is helpful in placing art in a time period. Only wish that there were more grades or a less vague paper.

He's teaching style is fine with me,but if you are art related major you may find AH210 is unusual it's more about analyzing not memorizing names of stuff. He flies through course material in class and he doesn't speak up so better sit in front row. He looks for specific things said in class in test. Besides, TF grades the essay which troubles me.

His class is just so boring. I tried to pay attention to his lectures again and again and yet failed to concentrate again and again. He just talks in monotone and barely says anything important. Paper and Test are hard. He just kills my interest in art history.

Great Professor. I was vaguely interested in Art History before this class, now I am facinated with it (I'm a History Ed major). Very interesting lecture, pay attention and take good notes and you should be good. Essays are simple, focus on the tests.

Ribner is a very interesting professor and gives great lectures. I found the essays to be ok but the tests to be difficult. I would suggest making sure you have an introductory art history course under your belt just to help with the test taking and such. I didn't get a great grade but I still learned a lot and enjoyed every lecture!

His class was interesting but it was difficult to know exactly what he wanted for his essays. He was very knowledgeable on the subject. The exams were difficult but just memorize everything and you will be fine.

Very passionate about his subject. Provides a lot of historical background about the art. Really wants you to think about the material rather than just simply memorize dates and titles. Great knowledge of art and history in general.

Professor Ribner is great. While I prefer Professor Zell, Ribner is still a great art history teacher. He really knows his stuff, especially when it comes to French art. I appreciated his wittiness and sarcastic humor. Very dry, but funny nonetheless. I LOVED AH112. Take it!

An exciting and informative lecturer, although he can come off as harsh outside of class. Picked works we had covered EXTENSIVELY for the exam, no surprises there. Would recommend

do NOT take this class if youre looking for an easy A. this class has seriously messed up my GPA..i went to every lecture and for his tests Ribner had some really obscure paintings/buildings on the exam. i am glad i took this class because i have a better knowledge of art but i wish it didnt adversely effect my gpa :(

Really passionate about Romanticism, but don't take the class at 8am if you can avoid it. He goes off on tangents that can easily put you to sleep. Otherwise there's not a lot of work and if you try hard you can do well.

My absolute favorite professor at BU. His lectures are extremely interesting and I actually enjoyed going to class! It's not easy to get A's on papers or tests but the material is really enjoyable. His passion for teaching the subject has inspired me to become an AH major.

Such a knowledgable professor! He knew so much history to really put the paintings in perspective. What better way to spend an hour than sitting in front of an amazing piece of artwork listening to storytime. And you learn a lot to boot. Great, great great class!!

Such a great professor! I loved his class and took two of his courses. I've never really thought any art history course was hard. If you can write a decent paper, and remember the jists of quite a few paintings you'll ace the class.
