Schwartz is an AMAZING professor, but he is by no means an easy one. He can be intimidating, but if you show that you want to learn and put in the work he's eager to help. Typical of Polsci, he is harsh with the grades, but he makes you CARE about what he's talking about. Taking his class was one of the best things I did at New Paltz, 10/10.

Probably one of the best professors I've had. His classes aren't easy A's but if you're an average student, B's aren't too hard to get. He definitely assigns a lot of readings, and class participation matters. Not a lot of opportunities for grading, just exams, and a paper. He keeps things interesting and is really helpful during office hours

He will call on you if your hand is not raised, and will drop your grade if you don't participate. His essays are straight forward, but make sure you go to office hours to understand what he's looking for because he's a difficult grader. Getting to know him will benefit you as he likes personal relations with students. Do your hw or you'll be lost

Taken him for a lot of classes and learned a lot. He is clear about what he wants from you and holds you to it. Brilliant man but can be intimidating if you are not used to him. Also a side note he is an awesome adviser.

Took prof Schwartz for 5 different classes. Never got an A but continued to take him because he is intelligent and forces you to learn and think for yourself. He's not an easy grader, he is fair and as long as you keep up with the readings you'll do fine. I'm now in grad school and every single thing Ive applied has come from his classes

Prof. Schwartz is a living paradox. An intelligent man with a sense of humor and a desire to help but he can also be quite arrogant and condescending, perhaps without meaning to. He does assign lots of reading but all of the key concepts you need will come through in lectures. I don't dislike the man but I would avoid taking another class with him

He is an incredible lecturer who unlike most professors, doesn't teach you to the book. Always very interesting informaiton and makes you in love with the subject area. Always tests you on current events knowledge and I love that. But he is by far the hardest grader I ever had, first b-. you can not please him easily, and he is very critical.

Probably one of, if not the best teacher I have had throughout my entire school career, including high school. He is definitely an expert in his field. He likes to play devils advocate in order to get his point across, and he never pollutes his lecture with personal opinion. Very interactive, and very helpful, if you seek his help. Great teacher

Definitely my favorite professor. I've taken two classes with him. He is difficult and will challenge your opinion and knowledge on the subject. You have to want to learn and participate. He is very knowledgeable and expects from his students the same energy you would expect from a professor. Take his class if you want to learn!

I have taken Professor Schwartz for several classes and I must say these reviews below me are not accurate at all. He is extremely helpful if you go to his office hours with useful questions. He teaches very clearly and his tests are very straightforward. I definitely recommend taking him any chance you get!

[Tips for taking him] /Expect to learn nothing in class /READ. And READ again when preparing for tests /Write WELL, CLEAR, CONCISE, NO JARGON, STAY ON POINT /If you have a question, go elsewhere. A little useless in that area /He's a really cool guy though and good teacher, but also seems like he has much better things to be doing- and prolly does

Really difficult grader, but intelligent guy. I didn't have any interest in IR or PoliSci before this class but I definitely think it made me a more wellrounded person. He assigns a LOT of reading and doesn't have many grades for the year. He seems to play favorites but isn't the jerk the other reviews make him out to be.
