Comment:

The professor is very knowledgable. Don't be afraid to ask questions in class. Go to all lectures and pay attention in class. He gives a lot of reading. Prof. Zatlin is a good professor and fair grader. He gives you opportunities to re-write papers. Good overall class.

Comment:

I had him for HI338 as well and MUCH preferred his higher level class. Comparative European Fascism was one of my fav classes at BU....huge emphasis on discussion which was so great for an upper level HI class. He played more of a facilitator role and let students ask questions and respond to each other to learn. Loved the class

I took a relatively basic class with Professor Zatlin, and he performed admirably in it. His lectures were well-organized and coherent, although past the 1950s he tends to skim over major events and focuses instead on smaller movements and ideas. Posts his slides online, and the exams are relatively easy, but the TA grades in strange ways sometimes

Probably my least favorite professor at BU. Lectures are very unclear and scrambled. Does not remain unbiased by any means and doesn't respond well to dissent. He's rather rude as well in emails and during office hours. Tests are fairly easy though and he generally only asks about basic concepts.

Can I get some of my money back? Everyone likes having class cancelled once in a while, but this was ridiculous. I'm sure the TF was capable of giving a lecture, or at least sending out an email telling the class not to come. Also, way too much reading, 3/4ths of which was not even tested on ($200+ down the drain).

Yes, he likes hte simpsons. but that was not what I was looking for in this class. I found him to be rather doctrinaire and boring. On the up side, this is an easy class.

He's a reallyl nice guy who knows everything about european history. Class is lecture format but he keeps it as interesting as it can be. Only two 3 page papers and two exams. Recommended. Plus hes a big simpsons fan, enough said

He's a great professor with a few glitches here and there. He knows what he's talking about and doesn't make me fall asleep in class which is a first for me. I'd recommend his class for anyone who loves history as much as I do.

Professor Zatlin is a great teacher- by far my favorite at BU. His lectures are interesting and very relevant to the test material. If you are willing to work hard, you can do well in this class because his lectures are very clear and organized and he is very accessible and helpful. Definitely take this class! His tests emphasize significance.

Great professor. He is very flexible with his office hours, making himself available to students on their time. There is a ton of reading, but if you understand the gist of the material, you can easily pull off a B. I'm looking forward to taking another of his class.

Tests difficult, covered unimportant, random details... I had a good understanding of the important aspects of German history, but the exams didn't ask me any questions about them! Never discussed the reading in class but interpretative questions on exam.
