He is a friendly old man but not a good teacher. don't take his classes if you can't read cursive.

Basically what everyone else said, his lectures are hard to follow, he's very quiet, and his handwriting is completely illegible. Bring the textbook to class, and read in class. That's how you will learn the material

Comment:
Lecture is largely incomprehensible. The book is much clearer on everything, just study that before a test. Workload is light. Midterms are easy, scantron. Labs are incomprehensible but very easily graded. He will answer any questions but will probably end up confusing something and going off on a tangent.

Worst teacher I've had in a while, his lecture is absolutely useless, quiz questions are not based on what he teaches in lecture. Handwriting is horrible, when you ask a question you receive a vague reply that is most likely off topic. He has the attention span of a 90 year old and forgets everything and loses his spot often. Needs to retire ASAP.

His lectures are boring, he still the overhead, and his handwriting is illegible; bottom line, lectures are useless. Surviving this class depends on how much time u dedicate to the textbook. I walked away with an A but it was no easy A; especially since this was my 1st chemistry class ever.

he's old, his lectures don't exactly help. He gives in class "quizzes" which you don't have to turn in, but they're helpful i guess. you have to read your textbook to learn something, you don't learn much in class. I went all of his lectures and took notes on everything, kind of helpful, but textbook=very important. not bad, easy to cheat on tests.

he's really old, boring, incomprehensible, and I could not even stand his lectures. He's helpful if you ask for help, but overall, his class is really boring...Tests are difficult, especially because it's hard to understand him in class. he writes out his lecture (illegibly, i might add), and doesn't explain concepts clearly. He's nice... but dry.

I really liked him because he is ALWAYS willing to answer your questions. However, he is old so he rambles on and on, which seems to stray away from what you're asking him. His labs are HARD. his tests are reasonable. If you study hard, you can get an A. However, he is too old to teach because he sometimes can't remember what he tells his students

Dr. Cahill is a nice person, but a very bad instructor. He expects students to obtain knowledge in chemistry after hard work on their own. His lectures are boring, his handwriting is incomprehensible, and his explanations are confusing. On top of it, his tests are difficult. So, take his class only if already know the material. It is not an easy A.

Mr. Cahill is an excellent teacher. He knows his stuff and is a really nice guy. Thing with him is that he is motivated by the participation of his class. If no one asks questions he thinks no one is listening and just goes through the motions. PARTICIPATE, GO TO OFFICE HOUR. If you do that, he will give you all the help you need.

Incomprehensible! I sat in class wondering what the heck he was explaining and didn't figure out into I got into lab- with another professor. It wasn't just me, but even the science majors in the class. If you're looking for an easy class to fulfill science GE, don't take this class taught by him. HOWEVER, he gives all full points for labs!

Cahill is a very good instructor. He is also very helpful and nice. He is hard to hear sometimes but if you are unclear about ANYTHING, ask him and he is more than happy to help. He gives practice quizes and tests, which his tests are based on. My advice is, take his class! and sit in front!

Richard Cahill was a pretty good chem teacher. Much better than the other one I had at de anza. He was very kind and helpful. No suprises but not easy. He expects you to know your material. He gives you a pretest which has the all the content you need to study for the midterms. His handwriting is bad but you can read it once you get used to it.
