He is a straight forward person. He talks through out the class period and you gotta make sure you take good notes. Gives review for all the exams with the syllabus at the beginning of the semester. Have to study for it, but if you pay attention to the lectures, it is not too hard. Don't take him if you have a visual or kinesthetic learning style.

He talks the entire class, so you need to make sure you're listening and taking notes. Only 4 total tests, #4 is the final, the tests are not cumulative. Gives test reviews in syllabus, DO THEM because the reviews really help with the tests. Attend SI sessions if you have one. Signature assignment boosts up the final by a letter grade!

AMAZING.He is energetic and fun. He makes the whole class interesting, but be prepared to write. This is a lecture course and you will need all of your notes to pass!Missing a day is like missing a chapter, so find a friend. Overall, if you attend, you'll pass.

Alvarez is a teacher who lectures a lot. I personaly fall asleep many times in his class because of his lecture. Many of my test i have failed and i studied for them. He is a very hard teacher and his class is very hard to pass.

I love this class! I took it in summer so a class was very long but never feel bored in his class. Listen to his lectures and take notes to be able to do well on the tests but he makes the stories very interesting. Do not buy the book, u wont need it. If i have to take more hist classes, i'll definitely take him again. BEST HIST PROFESSOR IN UHD!!!

Great professor, one of the best of UHD. I never liked history but the way he teaches make the lectures interesting, like he is telling a story. 4 tests - drops lowest grade. Even gives you ALL the test reviews on the first day. DOWNFALL: test are very difficult, suggest you form a study group when studying for his tests.

Just took Middle East History, and let me tell you it is not easy! I did recieve a "B" but i studied my butt off. There is 3 grades the entire semester midterm,research ppr, and final. Alaverz is an awesome prof. and you will learn so much from him, just go to class and read material and you'll do fine! STUDYING IS A MUST!

The best professor at UHD! He makes History interesting and entertaining. He doesn't just bore you with dates. The people who complain about Alvarez being hard are likely the Freshmen who didn't take good notes, or skipped class. Come on people, you're in college now. Tests are straight from notes. Best history professor I've ever had. I love his lectures, they are not boring and easy to understand. I never liked history, but I love the way he makes history interesting. The downdfall: you must study. His test were challenging. 4 tests total. Drop lowest test grade. WOULD RECOMMEND!

Great prof, he knows his history inside and out. The tests are little hard even after studying because you have to think about cause of the effect and vice versa. Meaning you need to know the inside of this history very well u get an A. If you study hard that won't get you an A maybe a B+. If u love history since high school and know everything that took place. Than u will love his class. Great speaker but tests aren't so great.

the way he teaches history is phenomenal, you'll enjoy his class if you like history. but you must study for his test, in my opinion, the test he gives are HARD. you dont have to come to class everyday, and he gives you a review for all four tests the first day of class! i would recommended! but not a blow-off class! if thats what you want.
