He lectures off topic far too often! It becomes extremely confusing. If you ask him a question and he doesn't understand what you're asking, he starts to treat you like you're dumb. His lectures are very dry and his voice is hard to listen to. He is a good guy, it seems, but I would not recommend taking his class if you can avoid it.

Balczon is great! Lots of students think that his class is impossible to do well in, the first time I had him I thought so too, but if you read and study his notes there's no reason you shouldn't ace his class or come close to it. Also has taught more valuable lab practices than any other prof I've had. Super helpful, and really funny.

This was my third semester with Balczon and he's still a wonderful professor. Always willing to help and very sarcastic but eager to talk about science. He loves when you get involved and excited about ecology. His exams are rather tough compared the ES 160 and BIO 203, but well worth the effort.
