I've taken Tiedemann 4 times. Best professor in the department. Hardest grader in the department. Take his class is you are passionate about the subject, have time to read the 3 books he assigns and write 6-8 page paper. War Vet too so knows his stuff-

Hard grader, very knowledgeable, He knows his stuff backwards and forwards, and has more of a leftist view of history but he gives the info and his opinion very well and does encourage opposite views. I'm a conservative and I liked his class and his teaching style very much. (If anyone was wondering)

AVOID. Very hard grader. Long, confusing lectures. Expects you to know every detail about everything and to agree with his opinions. Sure he's passionate and knowledgeable about history, but as far as teaching goes...not his forte in my opinion.

The worst! Lectures the ENTIRE class period & reads directly off of his absolutely WORTHLESS outlines. He thinks he's a grammatical genius, when really, he's as boring as the day is long. He is an EXTREMELY hard grader w/ unrealistic/biased expectations. He is unhelpful in office hours & doesn't care about anything other than his own point of view.

Dr. Tiedemann is an amazing professor! He really knows what he is teaching! He is a hard grader, however very helpful if you go during his office hours. I would definitely recommend if you want to learn history!

This is a very intense lecture class, but it's chock full of great information and definitely not a waste of time. If you are passionate about U.S. history, into poli sci or interested in Constitutional law, this is a good class to take. Don't skip classes, write down everything the man says and pack your essays and tests full of information.

lectures every single class period & basically gives you the outlines that you need to study for the final & midterm essays through lecturing. you don't really need to read the book because he gives you so much info in class. there are only 3 papers the entire semester & 2 of them are in class. if you mention lots of info in your essay, you're fine

Great teacher, extremely difficult grader. Lectures everyday, notes, notes, notes. Grade based on 3 essays (2 in class). Grades super hard. Interesting material, but class isn't very exciting. Recommend if your crazy good at essays.

He is a nice teacher but he is a very hard grader. Give him your papers before they are due so he can provide comments or else he will not give you that good of a grade.

I was unfortunately stuck with this class and slept almost every class period and got a B. He lectures EVERY class and he loves what he does... kinda boring. If you take notes really well and regurgitate the info into ur papers, you WILL do well. i honestly thought i was gonna do badly but hes a good guy after all :/

I thought the class was interesting, not super easy, but you will learn a lot from him. Classes consist of lecture the entire time (but it is interesting). Read 2 books during the semester and write a 5 page paper on it (not that hard). Final/Midterm you are given 7 prompts at the start of the semester, on the test he gives you 2, and you write 1

He was an OK teacher. I don't think I would take him again. He is very precise on history and he expects you to know things that we are going to be learning in class before we even learn them! If you must, take him, he's a decent guy...

Nice older gentleman...lectures the entire time. Just take notes and you have your answers to the midterm and final (gives you essay questions before the test). Randomly passes out test questions with two essay questions, you choose which one to write on. DO NOT NEED BOOK. He lectures everything and you could look up online if needed. Easy class!

no hw; 1 paper & 2 essay tests- hard grader. all lecture and takes attendence every day. if you are not a history major, avoid this class. he focuses on the details of US History, rather than the big picture; very hard to understand, if you do not know a lot about history from other classes. very detail-orientated.
