If you are looking for an "academic decathlon" class; This is it! Quizzes are fair & to the point. Discussions are like essays. 3 books your are required to buy/read; 1 chapter per book, per week. If you are and English major. Great pick for a class. If your major is something else. BEWARE! Take this class by itself. Its more like a 5 unit class.

Professor Zhao is a wonderful teacher! She's very helpful, encouraging, and gives opportunities for MANY bonus points throughout the semester. This class was a lot of work and takes time and effort. However, getting an A in the class is definitely achievable with hard work and dedication.

She's a great professor. She gave us help, encouragement, and guidance all throughout the semester to ensure little stress and gave us many opportunities to gain extra points. Make sure you give detailed and well-thought out responses in the discussions for full points. The essays are pretty easy and clear but again it needs to be well-thought out.

She gives a lot of homework, but it's easy. There's 5 essays and she gives you days to write them and work on them with others. If you listen, pay attention, and do your work(which is expected) , you'll pass. Don't take this class if you are expecting anything super fun, but take this class is you want an easy class.

Dr. Zhao is a very caring teacher. Her accent makes it hard for you to understand but you can tell that she's very knowledgeable in what she teaches. Make sure you do the work and email her if you do not understand what the assignment may be. Classes may seem boring but if you can get through it it's an easy A. She wants her students to succeed.

This class was fairly easy overall but there is so much work! If taking a ton of units avoid this class for your own good. Other than that it really helped me learn to keep up with multiple assignments at a time.

DO NOT TAKE, especially not online. Even when you do things right and follow directions, she will claim that it isn't what she meant. She contradicted herself and her teaching a few times when I asked her what mistakes I made on my work. I consider myself a strong English student, and I can comfortably say she's the worst professor I've ever had.

She is a bit tough to understand at times so make sure to ask her to repeat herself. If you at least try to get a good grade you will get it trust. In the beginning of the semester , she made the class turn into groups separated based on majors which was cool.

If you can take ENG 1C with another professor do yourself a BIG favor and do it. I have an A in her class, but this course was so hard to follow. Her instructions are very unclear and confusing. Her assignments are very time consuming. I did not learn anything new in her class. Discussions and papers and full of pointless busy work. TIME CONSUMING!

I did not learn anything from this class. This teacher gives us more discussions then actual assignments that will help us learn in the class. It's a lot of work that make you spend more than 3 hours on just one assignment . We read so many different books that she makes us buy but she doesn't explain the literature.

Her intention is to make her assignments and instructions clear and organised by using different colored fonts, bullets, and emojis however, it all makes it more confusing. She has too many "books" you need to buy which also makes it complicated figuring out which book she's referring to. I'm never able to tell exactly what the instructions are.

If you are looking for a heavy course load, you found it. It encompasses more than usual heavy reading, heavy writing, and will literally eat all your time. If you're a student and have obligations outside of school, such as family, work, etc. I recommend to take another professor or make this your ONLY class for the semester, even if it's online

This class os very difficult, I entered her class in love with English then I ended up hating it. She is not a good professor, her accent is hard to understand, she moves on to quick, and treats the class like a high school class. I wouldn't recommend anyone to take her.

Mrs. Zhao is pretty awesome! Her class is easier than the other English 1A class I took. The class is clear and assignments are understandable. It's easy enough for you to slack off so be careful and consistent. Not a hash grader on essays; gentle & helps you out. She works in groups. She is also on myetudes. 1 presentation. Overall, good class.

Took her online. Follow her directions and turn things in on time. She has tests, but if you're taking the web class it's open book. Many here complain she is strict, but for my class she kept extended due dates the sluggish students, of which there were many. Yes, you have to buy her books, but they are cheaper than other English classes.

Taken online. A lot of homework but its english 1c, so you should already expect that. Gives you time to do your homework, as long as you don't procrastinate you will do well in the class. Gives extra credit on a lot of things. She actually want's you to pass. Had above a 95% all semester. Expect to write a lot and a couple quizzes and 3-4 essays.

This is not a professor to take if you want to learn anything. You'll do well in her class if you're already decent at English or are willing to dully regurgitate her sayings in your essays. She speaks slowly and carefully while saying little of worth, which can become annoying. If you don't understand something, oh well. The tests are easy A's.

I don't know why people are complaining saying this class has "too many time constraits" or "spending too much time on it". May I remind you that this is a UC leveled class. I worked really hard and had to read her difficult material over and over. This is not for those who aren't used to UC leveled classes. Be ready to work hard! No joke.

Extra credit only possible by buying a book written by her (all textbooks are written by her) or by taking time off from work to attend school visiting trips... Very inconvenient. Also, the group project is tough... Better get that group together or you'll work your butt off all year to end up with a "C" like myself.

I took 1C online. It was not an easy class, but believe me you learn a lot. You have to be on your toes most of the time. It's a lot of work, but at the end you really feel it was a college level class. I have to be honest: at the beginning I almost hated her, but now I believe she is one of the best teachers I've ever had!
