Interesting prof, shes very passionate and makes lectures interesting. Lots of in class questions which can turn up on the midterms and finals. Dont skip class, attendance is worth 10%.

An incredibly knowledgeable professor who goes out of her way to help students succeed. VERY approachable and takes time to explain anything you might need help with. As stated in many reviews, class attendance is mandatory with lots of pop quizzes and bonus marks available. Passionate about the lecture material and easy to listen to. A great Prof!

Comment:

Lectures she can go on a tangent about nothing or unimportant stuff. The textbook is barley used, only as a supplementary thing, all of her exams have lecture material as the basis. The labs are okay, sometimes very good, had a very good T.A. in Michael Murphy. A+ chap. Lots of help on labs.

Joyce really likes what she teaches and it shows. Her assignments are expected to be done with a lot of analysis, so spend some time on them. Enjoy the awesome field trip, and the poster assignment!

a lot of memorizing, along with actually understanding the material. She tries to explain and help out as much as she can about what to expect on tests and exams, Which I found not too difficult with tons of studying tho. After each lecture slideshow she posts key points and possible test questions which really helped me out!

At the beginning of the term I hated the class, I thought it was tough and she was boring. But once I realized how to take good notes and actually listened to what she was talking about, I started loving the class. She really cares about what she's talking about and is pretty funny. She makes you work for the grade but I enjoyed it.

This is the course that I took for one of my science elective subjects. The class was fun if you prepare beforehand (i.e read textbook). The test required a lot of memorization (you need to give detail answers). I don't like the lab at all because I think it does not help me. I think it is too much burden for an elective subject.

Perhaps it's because this class was the broad overview of what my major is, so I was really into it, but I LOVED this class, and I LOVED Joyce. She is hilariously adorable, and actually genuinely cares about the success of her students. Yes, It is hard because you have to really work. I studied for hours, and flew through the exams. Just work hard!

You could tell she was really interested in what she was teaching and if you listened well, you could hear her making jokes to lighten up the classroom. If you pay really good attention and take good notes, you won't need the textbook much except for diagrams.

Wasn't too interested in the class as I am an arts major. If you pay attention and can understand the material as opposed to memorizing it though it makes her class a lot more fun. She gives bonus marks the odd time to students who show up, and gives bonus marks to students who go to information lectures at the library (ie. essay writing).

She was passionate about geography and made it easy to understand. Had to work for my marks but was happy with them. Tests were easier than expected. Study her slides and GO TO PASS. It helps A LOT. Ended up liking the class more than expected because of her. Also, she LOVES to give bonus marks so go to the lectures!!! Gave us 3.5%

She's very interested in her work and very enthusiastic, I find it inspiring. Very upbeat and fun person and easy to listen to. Love her accent and her hyperness it helps me stay awake and get involved with the class and course material! Excellent Professor!

avoid her classes at all cost. does not seem to be able to teach what she knows as she gets very distracted in her lectures and rambles on about nothing. then on her tests she asks for the most detailed descriptions. does not really give her students a fair chance. also very boring and dull lectures. really hard to learn from her or her slides
