I took Broin for Spring 2018 and she is honestly one of the best professors I've had at Stanislaus. She's truly caring for her students and only wish the best. The readings aren't too bad and lectures aren't terrible. It's an easy A just lots of writing on the tests (which are about 6 pages) but she allows a notecard which I easily fit everything

Dr. Broin is an excellent professor but you must be prepared to do the readings. I had four books for this class plus articles and material from outside of class. The papers are lengthy (around 10 pgs) and there are weekly journal entries but the class concepts are not difficult. She makes it enjoyable and relatable for everyone.

Dr. Broin is a really nice professor, always smiling. You read 3-4 books, pick two of your favorite quotes from each book and write a page of analysis for each quote. There are no tests or quizzes. The final is a 10 page paper.

Dr. Broin was a nice teacher but I hated the fact that she would never have any concrete notes for us to take. She always went off on tangents and it would take her a bit to get back on track. Her homework wasn't too hard . Her tests were really hard. I felt like she treated the tests as if we were philosophy majors, which I am not.

Great professor, to me the subject of Philosophy is confusing but Professor Broin made great examples and broke down the material as well as she could. During my course, the tests were worth 60% of our total course grade so get ready to study well for those. But besides that theressome in-class writings and some readings so overall a smooth class.

She's amazing, made one paper optional and gives so much help with anything you might need. Ask a questions she's there to help and she is also great about getting extensions on papers. Just talk to her, very understanding.

Three paper and attendance. That was all you were graded on, so you better be a good writer and don't think you can get away without reading. The papers you write have to use the assigned texts as sources. Lectures are LONG and she rarely included student voices or asked questions. I learned a lot, but it was hard to sit through for 3 hours.

Personal opinion: Such a beautiful soul. I've taken two diff classes with her. Very easy going and easy to talk to. Unbiased commentary: A LOT of writing and reading, be prepared. Answers questions and allows students time to speak in class. That being said, she can be verbose at times, but it's always about the material. No tangents.

Okay, she is very enthusiastic about her philosophy; however, she isn't very clear and doesn't write much on the board for notes. Be very attentive in lectures because your notes will determine how well you do on tests. If you can make a friend in class it would help tremendously. She grades a little hard, but she does curve test scores.

Not tests, just papers. I thought the papers might be intimidating. But if you just take notes on what she says in class and write down the page numbers that she spends a lot of time on, you'll be able to write the paper in an hour or less. Sometimes the class can be boring; other times we get some awesome discussions in. Don't miss 3+ classes.

Broin is good professor. She knows a lot about Philosophy but is too hard on the students when it comes to her grading scale. She says herself the tests are meant to be difficult and A's are rare. You can use a notecard but even that isn't good enough You get a freebee writing assignment but doesn't accept late work unless you're a favorite.

Dr. Broin is great at what she does. She' s a fair and pretty easy grader. There are quite a few papers to write, but she gives a lot of feedback so that you can use that for help on your following papers. There are no tests. You do need to read, if you want to do well on your papers, but you can get by if you just show up to class and listen.

I love Dr. Broin! She makes philosophy fun and interesting. The material is difficult to get through, but she goes over everything thoroughly to make sure everyone understands. She gives great feedback on papers. She is strict on attendance, but that's only because you will have ZERO idea of what is going on (even if you read) if you miss class.

Ditto on the positive remarks about Dr. Broin. Philosophy is NOT easy, and I didn't understand most of what I was reading, but Valerie clarified things a bit for me. She grades on a curve, which saved me. I ended up with a B+. She is fair, and will answer any questions you have on concepts of philosophy.

Such a sweet professor! Shes always willing to help. You must take notes, and at least read a little from the assigned readings to get a gist of what she's talking about, and then just take notes in her class. She lets you use a note card on the test and gives a study guide. I would just write my answers on the note card and copy it on the test.

Gives you study guide. Lets you have a 3x5 card on the test. Yes there are quite a bit of assignments but they're just one page. Philosophy isn't easy to understand, but Dr. Broin is an amazing professor and she will definitely help you. Sit closer to the front, pay attention and you will FOR SURE get an A.

Took intro philosophy over summer and would HIGHLY recommend her to anyone looking to take this class. She gave us ALL the material needed, so no textbook. Covers everything that is on the tests in her lecture and gets students involved in discussion. Philosophy can be super boring but she makes it interesting. Take good notes and you'll do great!
