He liked me because he thought I was Spanish no matter how many times I said I wasn't. For future students: he draws intricate figures on the blackboard because they will be asked for on his test.

Comment:
Dr. Ausio has very limited notes and next to no slides, so its very hard understand concepts that aren't in the textbook. He also marks very arbitrarily and unfairly and doesn't indicate why you lost marks. The class should be really interesting and extremely useful, make sure to take it with anyone else so that you can learn updated concepts.

Juan Ausio is a truly incredible professor that cares about his students. I took Biochem 300B with Dr. Ausio and finished the course with 93%. Dr. Ausio is a tough marker, and does make mistakes from time-to-time, but is always available to help! His expectations clear from the start of the course, so if you attend/ work hard you will succeed!

I did not find his accent bad at all. He is passionate about biochemistry and genuinely wants his students to do well. Go to every class, understand the notes fully and you will be fine. He is always in his office/lab and willing to help students out with the material as well.

Comment:
Accent is hard to understand, drops volume of his voice often so you miss key words in lecture. Chalk drawings of important structures/processes hard to decipher on the board. Doesn't use the notes enough, lectures meander and he seems to talk off the top of his head and faster than you can write. Overall he's a smart man and a poor instructor.

Comment:
Makes mistakes transcribing notes to the chalk board, I would recommend having the given notes next to you during lecture so you can catch them. Deviates from textbook so its not useful. Some exam questions from questions asked in class (gives hints when he does this). Hard exams but fair marker. Sit in the front, participate, and you'll do fine.

He knows he is hard to understand, so hands out lecture notes every class. GO TO HIS OFFICE. Very helpful, and wants to see his students succeed.

Doesn't know how to teach, notes are horrid (graph titles in spanish), and you can't understand him as he slurs his words. Arguing for marks is useless as he doesn't even consider what you saying and believes he is right no matter what… His quizzes are a completely ridiculous and you only do well on them if you can memorize entire journal articles

Ruined my interest in biochem. Hands down the most ineffective prof I've ever had. Impossible to understand in class. Constantly makes mistakes in class. Marks questions in an unfair manner and the questions are poorly worded to begin with. Completely out of touch with students. I will NEVER take a course with Ausio again.

Graduating this year in biochem, worst prof I've ever had. Some handouts in spanish, poorly done and ridiculously marked memory dump quizzes on long papers that ask for small details, meandering pointless lectures on the history of chromatin that turns out to just be false in the end.

I enjoyed his style of teaching, but hated his style of marking! The exam covered EVERYTHING he talked about, and it was hard to know exactly what he was getting at in the questions.

old school style of teaching uses overheads and chalkboards its kind of nice. If you can't understand what he's saying speak up! He's well aware he has an accent, he won't be offended

He enjoys his chalk. I think he did a good job in lecturing, he didn't correspond to lenninger as much as the others did which at times made it harder, but he was definatly better then buckley
