This course could be renamed Women's Lives according to Judith Barker but, nonetheless, she is an excellent professor. She may be opinionated and biased, but that's because she is enthusiastic about what she is teaching and wants students to be able to understand and analyze different perspectives. She genuinely cares about her students.

I don't feel like I learn anything in this class. I was very disappointed, thinking that it would be great and she would be really interesting- instead, she just repeats herself and talks about her own opinions, with no information or debate from the class. Eh.

Very fun, very interesting teacher. Shes highly opinionated but I feel that adds to the class. Her opinions do coincide with modern feminist and gender theory. While information learned was not great, new perspecives and new ways of thinking were a must. Highly recommend this class

Don't pay attention to the bad comments--if you have a sincere interest to learn about feminism & gender theory, judith is one of the best teachers you could find. What some may see as biased rants is really just her incredible passion for the subject matter, and I'd take an enthusiastic professor like judith over some boring drone any day.

this is possibly the worst professor i have ever had. she puts her own biases front and center in her lectures. there is no teaching. there is only dictation of her opinion. she's a ****, reactionary, angry, angry woman who masquarades as a professor.

Comment:

Barker is is friendly and her tests and papers are easy. However, she does seem to quote figures that came from a very slanted, non-scientific method. Her biases remain clear. So if you are not super-feminist, sometimes to the point of disillusionment, shy away from this class.

took several sociology course with judith back in the day and she constantly rocked me. not an easy A, but no good teacher ever is easy. her class on race, class, and gender totally threw me for a loop in the best possible way.
