he's a cool guy.. i think he's pretty young too. easy to understand, emphasizes group work, assigns homework. its kinda like a challenging high school class so i think hes a good teacher for first years.

Dr. Calkins is fantastic! If I were younger and/or richer I'd conisder majoring in Lit -- Calkins lets everyone know it's okay to have your own opinions and assumptions about it. He's a great challenger too; it is really not he who teaches the class, each and every person is teaching each other. Clever guy!

Very organized and helpful. My only problem with the class is how much emphasis he put on group work and how heavily that affected your overall grade. Yes, I'm easy to work with and don't mind group work, but it sucks when you are stuck with people who don't do anything and YOUR grade suffers. Not F

Dr. Calkins was a really cool teacher. Very fun class, and maybe even a little too easy going for me. He knows the stuff and he answers questions and does discussions well. His feedback on essays isn't very helpful though. He recently decided he doesn't like emo kids. He's fun, thumbs up.

Professor Calkins' pedagogy is extremely organized and clear. Expect to have homework (either group work or an essay) to work on all the time. I think the amount of work he gives is fair. Plus, there is no long research paper like other ENGL1B's.

Well, I would say this guy is unneccessarily hard. Picks out a lot of hard essays for you to read. You are forced to agree with his position in the essays. He thinks he is clever with his complex grading system for group work, but he is not. Not recomend~

Very organized teacher. i like that in teachers, some students may not. We had to turn in a paper every week though, but onthe first day of class he warned us about that, and he was very helpful when wanting help.
