She makes you work for your grade, but as long as you put in the effort and meet with her if you need it, she is a really easy going teacher. She usually gave us extra points on the tests because they can be rather "word-y" and some things might've been unclear. Overall though you just have to put in the effort and she's easy if she sees that!

Dr. Parker is a very nice person and genuinely cares about her students, but she can't teach. I know she means well, but each class she goes off on a tangent and we rarely learn anything. I took notes on the bold terms in the LF textbook and it worked well...I received As on the 3 exams. If you can take this class with another professor, do it

If you can avoid taking intro to ling with Judith Parker, please do so. She is a very kind person, but the majority of her lectures were tangents. She doesn't seem to answer questions no matter how basic and doesn't teach. I walked out without learning a shred of linguistics and had trouble figuring out what to study for her two exams. Avoid her.

She is very passionate and knowledgeable about her subject. Her main problem is teaching the material. She is very disorganized which may be part of the problem. She doesn't use any visuals which is a huge disadvantage for most people. Her tests are also badly worded.

If you can, take another Professor. This class was honestly a joke, the only lectures we had were her rambling on about nonsense that had nothing at all to do with the material. You basically have to teach yourself. She doesnt tell you your grades, even if you ask her one on one. Test questions usually dont make any sense. This class was a mess

I love Professor Parker! She's the reason why I decided to major in Linguistics and is the nicest professor I have. You will succeed in this class as long as you keep up with readings, go to her if you're having trouble, and pay attention/take notes in class. People who don't like her are the ones who don't put in the effort. Definitely choose her!

She was very unorganized and ruined my interest for linguistics. If you can, take ling 101 with another professor. Almost finished with the semester and literally haven't learned a thing.

This professor does not follow the course schedule--she had to revise the syllabus three times by mid-semester. She doesn't go over assigned reading the day it's due and is disorganized. A majority of this class is reading lengthy, confusing chapters and teaching yourself. Try to avoid her.

I love Professor Parker! She is so sweet and genuinely passionate about linguistics. Her class is kind of go with the flow but I think the main goal of the class is to learn linguistics naturally. Participation matters and she takes attendance, so if you struggle with that her classes wouldn't be for you. She's amazing though!

Parker is a pretty good professor, but only after you go and meet with her personally. It's best to record her lectures, take notes, and then go back and review the lecture and fill in where you missed. She talks pretty quickly so it is easy to miss parts of her lecture.

Convoluted, slow-paced class. It's November and I still don't know what this class is about. Prof makes bogus reasons to show up for class (we learn nothing) or assigns group presentations so she doesn't have to teach. AWFUL.

There's really only one grade that matters in this class and that's the group presentation that you work "all semester" for. You can completely make up the assignment 2 days before it's due and still get a decent grade. She takes questions for the tests straight out of the book so read that and you'll be golden.

She's a nice lady, but her tendencies to delay on information can be problematic. For an exam she was to email us an outline. It wasn't emailed until around midnight day before the exam. If you don't have to I wouldn't take this class.

Professor Parker is kind, intelligent and very interested in the field, which helps novice students. I came to this class with a predisposed idea of how boring it would be, and quickly changed my mind. Easy quizzes (if you read and attend class) and interesting discussions. I recommend this professor for intro LING.

In brief: minimal textbook use, super easy exams (just read over the material the night before and you'll be fine), nice lady. Takes attendance every class. You'll want to skip, but don't. You won't do much work, you'll watch a lot of movies, and you'll be bored as hell, but it'll be one of the easiest A's you get at UMW, so don't worry about it.

If you don't give a crap about learning the subject and are just filling a gen ed, then go for it. Otherwise, don't waste your time in her class.

I hated how long the night class was but ended up being a great class and a grade booster. Parker is a very charming lady and makes class fun and gives you breaks during the long class. Tests are fairly easy, just skim over the chapter summaries and you'll do great. The class made me interested in minoring in Ling.

I learned nothing in this class. She taught nothing in this class. She talked at us for three hours without stopping to see if anyone was struggling. There were 3 exams and like 5 completion grades though, so if you're looking for minimal work this is it.
