Rypma is a great professor and is very passionate about her subject! Every week expect to read a book or packet and there will be quizzes on all readings. The exams are 100% memorization so make sure you take good notes because you will need to know them word for word on the exams. If you keep up with reading and attend all classes you should pass!

Professor Rypma is very passionate about her subject. She was also very sweet. I couldn't take her class again simply because I personally am not interested in this subject... Can be a tough grader sometimes, quizzes on each book, and group projects count as participation points usually. Study guides are exact replica of tests! Takes lecture notes.

Prof. Rypma is a character (good or bad I'm still not sure) but her syllabus is very clear on what to expect for classes. Her grading is a little ridiculous as well as her attendance policy (doesn't give excused absences). You must read the books and you must have the textbook.

Professor is my least favorite professor at WMU. Assigned seats, took attendance before class started, and never assigned us appropriate reading. She would tell us how the reading was too easy or too hard for HS every single week... The biggest percentage of our grade was on a poetry reading that had nothing to do with Adolescent Lit.

I loved this class! Prof Rympa is very knowledgable and makes this class fun. There are lots of books and quizzes on every one, so you do have to read the book! Most of her picks though I actually did enjoy reading. The tests are basically memorization so definitely study for them. But if you go to class and read the books it is easy to do well.

Professor Rypma is a very nice lady, and she grew on me over the course of the semester. My main gripe is that she never let us move tables in a circle so that we could truly have a discussion. Make sure to do the readings, and also write down all notes verbatim, they will be on the tests, which are half memorization, half symbolism, usually!

The class was great, we read alot of great children's books. Tea days are good too! She is very strict in grading papers. You have to attend a poetry reading, also she likes to call you out in front of the class or laugh at your answer when the answer isn't even funny. I found her to be very rude.

Tests we get study guide and EVERYTHING is word for word. Books didn't take long to read. Tests pretty easy. Packets were the hardest quizzes. Event paper was annoying but I've had worse. Food days are amazing. Nice break in the day. Small groups are used A LOT.

You have to read the books....but they take all of 2 hrs to read and are good ex: The Giver, The Wizard of Oz, Eggs......Easy class and very fun, FOOD DAYS ONCE A MONTH. Very chill class. Tests= pure memorization. The last test you can write a paper or take the test.

EXCELLENT professor. I was nervous that this class wouldn't be as good as I was hoping but it was even better. Lots of easy group work, discussions, and real life examples. She loves what she teaches and she loves her students. One of my favorite professors in my four years of being at WMU. Can't wait to take another class with her!

Hard Grader. Most of the time she is very interesting. There are times when she rambles on for lengthy periods though. The book choices are excellent, but there is a lengthy paper requirement for the class.
