Comment:

Number 1 professor in my books. Had Doc for 3 classes, Equity, Investments, and Theory & Practice. Would take him over any other professor. He makes sure to explain everything and does so in such a way that its easier to understand. I recommend you take one of his classes just to get the chance to meet him.

Comment:

He's really smart & a great lecturer. Take the opportunity to learn from him because he really knows his stuff! He can be tough, but do the problems he assigns & you'll do fine on exams. Lectures prepare you well for tests. He shows you how to do the problems in class, its just up to you to show up and practice on your own. Put in a little effort.

Comment:

Russell enjoys torturing his students and challenging them. He literally show you that he is challenging you and that he can mess up your life up. His exams are all written, 6 quizzes, and attendance is not mandatory ( It is hard to understand anything in his class anyways). AVOID he literally will make you suffer!

Very very hard written tests. tough grader and the grade is just on 2 tests and 6 quizzes. He challenges his students. He knows his stuff but he is not a teacher. AVOID

Just finished taking investments with him. I'll barely make a B. He goes too quick to make thorough notes and doesn't always upload the powerpoints used in class. Very math heavy with little explanation of multi-step problems. Has us calculating things we'll never have to calculate by hand in the finance world.

Very hard written tests and tough grader. on the other hand, he doesn't teach, he just sits on the chair and speak. Even he brought the problem answers on paper and just put it in the screen. AVOID if you can. hardest class I've ever had.

Smart guy. Very good at explaining things. Midterm, final, and 2 quizzes. Everything is written, but he gives study guides with very similar questions. Partial credit on the midterm and final. Makes you memorize the vocab words from the textbook. Go to class, write down his explanations, and do the practice problems. You will learn a lot from him.

Dr. Russell is very intelligent and expects everyone to know whats going on. He doesnt really explain anything in detail, he usually just goes through the powerpoints and youre expected to know whats going on. 100% written exams, gives partial credit, 4 exams 25%, if you bomb one the final is worth 50%. Study Study Study (textbook AND canvas exams)

Comment:

Doc was ok for theory. The way to pass this class is do every homework problem he assigns and understand 100% of everything he posts to canvas. These things WILL be on the test and they'll usually be 10pt+ problems so if you don't understand them then you're out of luck. Gives a lot of partial credit, which helps a ton. Not an easy class. Goodluck.

Does this professor not realize no one likes written exams? All the other professors teaching this course give multiple choice exams. However, Russell gives entirely written exams that are quite tough to complete in the short period of time. Not only that, but the grading structure is created where you fail if you do bad on one exam.

Imagine, you're studying 134 different financial terms just to find about four on the actual exam. If you're taking his class twice a week, your exam is split into two days. No, the material is not in order and is put randomly on the test. Final is cumulative. All exams are written, as are the quizzes. Though he's charismatic, he's a tough grader.

It's been a few years since I had him but I thought he was a great professor. I took a different professor for this course who made the class more stat heavy than he does. He makes this class pretty easy. I got a B with average studying

Doc is a great professor. I learned a lot in his class, but you have to attend class. He asks specific questions about things he taught about in his lecture on the tests/quizes. He gives study guides for the math portion and 100+ terms to memorize each test. The class is hard, but do-able if you study. Great/nice professor.

Out of all classes I took his was the hardest. The only class I failed during my time at UNCC. Hard to contact him when you need him. Very lecture heavy and like others have said, if you fail one test, its twice as hard to pass the course. Would not take again.

Yes, it might be a little difficult, but if you like investments or finance you are going to learn more from Dr. Russell than anyone else. Plus, he is very easy to get along with and is extremely humble and well-spoken.

He is very intelligent and the lectures reflect that. The quizzes and tests are difficult but do-able if you read the book, focus on concept checks, and solve the problems that he e-mails before exams. Overall, good professor and course.

Wonderful professor!Very smart and teaches with real life experience in financial world. He is not tricky and always ready to answer your questions and give necessary help. He created in me great interest in finance and importance of investing in stock. He will never look down on you, no matter whom you are or where you come from.
