All the reviews here are either great or awful - she's fine. If you don't attend classes or read any of the material, yeah, you'll have a hard time. But honestly, if you show up, do 70-ish% of the readings, and contribute every now and then, you'll do fine. My biggest problem was confusion over assessments, but she's really nice if ask for help.

I do not understand the negative comments received. Julia is a terrific professor who is accommodating when you need it and very helpful with work. Class was interesting, I learned a lot, and I would recommend her class to anyone.

love her! this seminar course was such a treat. she is the most forgiving prof I have ever encountered (i found out by making a fool of myself). super smart, able to incorporate theory into her lecture very casually from kristeva to said to harraway. i will miss this class. DONT BUY THE READER just the novels.

I don't know what most people are talking about here; Julia Emberley teaches in a style that I found refreshing, exciting, and liberating compared to most other professors. She is fair - she just doesn't baby her students into thinking that they are all wonderful and perfect. She is exactly what a uni. prof. should be. Suck it up.

When she actually appears for class, Emberley is an effective teacher (provided she knows where the class is in the curriculum). She rarely does show, however, leaving the teaching to the TA. Prabjot, on the other hand( her TA) makes a very effective prof.

Half time excellent, half unprepared. Passion for topics sometimes flare out of control. Does play favourites but who doesn't--all profs do. Is open minded if delivery/challenge to her position is intelligent. 255E a must, raises marks in other classes.

Actually, your right...perhaps it is a misnomer, in your opinion but her course is challenging. Again, I had a chance to see a different side to her--but then, maybe I am biased, and maybe she is an ogre--but ogres are somewhat of a myth, aren't they?
