Dr. J is by far the best professor I have ever had. I am sad he gets such a low rating on this site. Many students don't like him because he is very nontraditional in his teaching methods. But if you listen to what he says and engage in class discussions, you will learn more about life than you can imagine. Take advantage of his wisdom.

i took both alt. culture and soci theory with him. he is brilliant. and crazy, but the two go hand in hand. for a class like intro, he isnt the right fit. but in a smaller class, where he is talking about things he is interested in and passionate about he is wonderful. he opens your eyes and to viewing things in a way you never would have imagined

I forget what level class this was. I would only recommend it if you're into the highly abstract. He's a nice dude and if you try on projects, you get an A. But I don't feel like I learned a lot, and I thought the class passed by slowly. He could be funny a lot and he says himself the lowest grade he gives is a B, because he hates grading systems

I don't understand why this man became an educator, or how he was even given tenure. The majority of each class consisted of Julian talking out of his ass while neglecting the intellectual development of his students. Coming from one of his colleagues, "Julian does not know how to convey what he wants from students." Almost made me change my major.

i've takem 3 classes with julian. he is crazy but brilliant. some people don't like his style of teaching like in intro to socio, but for smaller classes he is real good. he is more abstract than most professors which is great in socio courses. i love dr. j.

I have taken two classes with him now and Dr. J. is absolutely wonderful. When I took Soc101 I was indifferent about him since the class was so big, but it was definitely an easy and informative class. My smaller class with him is one of my favorites. He is very easy going and has a lot of interesting things to say. The workload is very light.

Worst. Class. Ever. The content could be interesting if you could understand what he's trying to say - but I don't think that's possible. Love your TAs in this class, they're lifesavers.

Dr J. is crazy.....however, his overwhelming passion and humorous acting makes class enjoyable. Just make sure you are good friends with your T.A., try to gain some truth from the babblings Julian puts out there.....he doesn't mean to insult you, it's just that he's ready to see some new change since his days of being a Black Panther.

Don't take his class. It's honestly terrible. If I hadn't taken soc in HS, I would have no idea what was going on. My TA understood that everyone hated him and couldnt understand what he was saying, which is the only reason I did well. Avoid "Dr. J" as much as humanly possible.

Seems like a really cool guy on a personal level, but I struggled to understand this guy's teaching. The only way I got through this class was from my TA session. There are 3-5 page essays due every other week which are an absolute nightmare. Sociology is a pretty interesting topic, but I don't really recommend this class.

I calculated that I'm paying around $1300 per credit per semester at Ithaca. That means I paid about $4000 so I could take a poorly organized mess of a class that used as many polysyllabic words as possible to tell me what I already knew. How insipid was it? *Our final paper was on the Matrix* Yeah. A great class to skip.

Juilian is a strange guy. Moody, sometimes not listening, I think he really needs to leave Ithaca College and get back to a large city because the students at IC will never really appreciate him. Gives very ambiguous directions for papers and then will give you a low grade. Didn't like that much.

he doesn't really teach. he just starts talking and then tangents his way through class using "examples" from his life. its basically the Julian Euell show. he changed his mind many times about grading many times and never made it clear to the TAs or students. Many of the questions weren't logical or complete sentinces. it's not worth the hassle.

Terrible class. Huge waste of time and money. Class = nap, tests are frustrating because questions are phrased illogically. He needs to learn to write competent and complete sentences. You will learn a lot about his girlfriend and their sex life, but nothinga bout sociology.
