Comment:
Dr. Ruiz tends to be a tad eccentric, but beneath the "sass" he is a brilliant man that is extremely intelligent. He can grade a bit harshly, but it's only because he expects excellence from his students. Make sure you do the readings, study questions, and take detailed notes.

This is a tough class, but if you do all the extra credit quizzes and you dont miss the mastery training assignments online, it will give you a good foundation in points. He drops your lowest score on tests. Tests are very difficult so be ready to read and understand the lectures. Pay attention to the essay directions on citation and deadlines!

Prof. Ruiz is by far one of the worst professors at RCC. This man has no business teaching in the honors program. He gives redundant and wack multiple choice test that resemble nothing of the study questions, hes very anal about some of the stupidest stuff such as a citation formating and has an very unapproachable and sarcastic type of humor.

I had him for PSY 1 and PSY 9 online as well, he has every week outlined clearly as far as what to read, assignment, and due time. He uses Cengage which takes time but isn't hard to complete and pass. He is test heavy, but has a slightly looser grade scale than some other courses (a 68% was a passing grade.) Does a pass/fail point system online.

He grades by "bundles" which means you have to do a certain amount of each type of assignment in order to get a certain grade, completely disregarding points. I got basically 100% on all exams, homework, and every possible extra credit assignment offered. But since I didnt pass one small 10 point discussion board, I wasn't "eligible" to get an A.

Took him for PSY 1 online - class is simple; answer questions about the book, take a few tests, and write discussion posts. Workload was light (2-5 hours/week), and he always gave feedback when grading. Seems very approachable, and is clear about what he expects, while also knowledgeable about psychology. Would definitely take again for PSY 2.

Because it is an online class, expect to rely heavily on the textbook. Attempt to understand the concepts and main ideas and not mere memorization. Be careful to follow all instructions laid out in the syllabus, otherwise you risk missing vital points. Despite being a tough class, after six weeks I have amassed so much knowledge in psychology.

Was an online class so can't expect much, but he gives lots of assignments. Extra credit quizzes and tests are essential - compiled mostly from Quizlet. Passing the class: Do every assignment, all extra credit quizzes, all tests, and discussions. Final exam Quiz questions. Quizlet, quizlet, quizlet. Google all the tests and quizzes.

Dr. Ruiz grades you using homework (using study Q sets which take long to do & are worth almost nothing) and tests. Little extra credit is offered through online quizzes. If you do your reading/homework & pay attention in class, you should pass the class. I joined 3 weeks late and still got an A. I recommend him for psych majors like myself.

He has a very engaging lecture style. Must attend class! More than 1 way to do well in the class, aside from the tests. He drops the lowest test score. Chapter study questions, that count towards your grade, which are A LOT of busy work, but worth the extra points. There's some xtra credit options, too. Overall, be prepared for a lot of reading.

Quizzes are flawed with mistakes. Doesn't put original thought into his effort to teach. Doesn't seem to care about student performance. Syllabus is extremely rigid. Final exam is weighted heavily and burdens students in the last 3 weeks of the course w/quizzes, tests, study question assignments, and discussions. Uninspiring, makes you hate Psych!

I wouldn't take this class if I wasn't a psychology major. If you are looking for an easy A, keep looking. Ruiz will make you work. He gives long study guide sheets for homework and the exams are very difficult. He will mark your work down severely if there is a formatting issue. This professor is no joke. Truly, psych majors only.

Very difficult professor would advise not taking his class if you're not a psychology major. Tough grader has no problem taking points away if you do not do an assignment exactly as instructed. Tests are difficult and the study questions are not enough to prepare for the test. A good professor though, you have to learn to pass.

Homework includes of about fifty questions for each chapter and it only counts for three points. This takes a long time which it could be used for studying the tests. The test are hard and it seems like he does that on purpose so you could struggle with it. And he never finishes and covers all the lectures because there is not enough time in class.

Challenging yet rewarding. a lot of reading, and understanding terms, and the material. He told us its one of the most difficult psych courses and many ppl drop. Survived w printing the Powerpoint lectures and bringing them to class, and use of the Coursemate. Textbook with optional CM is $180. he pulls quizzes off CM directly, 10 poss. Ex Cred pts

The undisputed worst professor I've had in my schooling. Tests are extremely hard to understand because the scenarios he uses. His homework will take you 4 hours straight if you can type 45 words a minute. He takes pride in how difficult his class is. Number your responses or you won't get any points. You'll fail his final even with studying.

NEVER have i had such an awful professor. I absolutely HATE this course. I tried so hard. Would spend hours studying, doing ALL the SQ's and STILL managed to fail. 3 points for a chapter of about 100 questions. TOP IT ALL OFF, test are 45 questions and then you only get 11 points. It is an online course and he MAKES YOU GO TO CAMPUS for the final.

If you want to fail then take this class. His grading module makes you think you have a certain grade but you don't, the grade is worse. If you get 45 out of 45 on your test you ONLY get 11 points. I suggest you get another professor if you need to take psychology 1, if not be prepare to fail.

Ruiz seems to enjoy giving zeros or low scores over petty things like formatting. Who cares about the actual content that one spends days researching and turning into an awesome paper? Ridiculous!
