Took Dr. Pleasants' class in the mid-1980s--he was one of the main reasons (along with Dr. Patrick Geary) I pursued a BA in History. I can still hear and see him lecturing--brings a smile. He was all you would hope to get from a college professor--he told riveting tales, loved his topics and cared to make history something alive today! Loved him

I graduated fifteen years ago, but I still remember Dr. Pleasants as the most engaging professor at UF. His personal anecdotes about the Kennedy family and the night MLK was killed were the highlights of getting a minor in History. I wish he could be my grandfather.

Not a very objective presentation of history. The textbook is useless because he will only give you credit for discussing what he deems to be historically relevant (which is quite different than what the textbook deems)

Took the class summer b - not a good idea. lots of reading involved, def keep up with it or you will get way too far nehind. go to lecture for the significance of everything. essay tests only so you must know pretty much everything in order to get a good grade. if you can get someone else, i woudl suggest it, but he is a good professor

lots of reading. took for summer b and the final covered over 625 pages of text, and lecture. only college course ive ever failed. essay exams sucked. too much material to identify and give signifcance in essay form. i missed very few days of class and still failed i thought it would be an interesting class(and it was)but seriously regret taking it

Take this professor, he is great. If you really want to learn some cool stuff, go to his office and talk with him. I strongly recommend that you take a class from this professor and if you work hard, you'll get a good grade.

one of my fave classes of all time. he is the ideal college professor. the only drawback is that you DO have to GO TO CLASS. the good thing though is that you will enjoy lectures you wont mind having to show up. tests are hard if you dont go to class or do the reading if you choose not to go to class. if you have to take 2020, it's the only way to

By far my favorite history professor at UF. He is exactly what a college professor is supposed to be - engaging, entertaining, intelligent and always willing to talk to students. With few grades, however, attaining an A is challenging. GO TO THIS CLASS tho he connects all the dots for you, just take good notes and you should do relatively well.

Last poster probably didn't show up to class much. Great lecturer...but you have to BE there! He's a fair grader who expects students to remember facts and put into context. Isn't that what college is SUPPOSED to be? At any rate, I think he might be retiring...so it might be a moot point.

There is no explanation for how this man grades. I recommend reading a book instead of going to this class and listening to this old man ramble

He is the BEST professor in the History Dept. for sure! His lectures are clear-although a bit fast pace-but you will learn SO much! He is a LOT of fun and his stories are funny + interesting. He is really opinionated about politicians and has a lot to offer as a personal historian also. Lots of reading...but aren't all history classes like that?

Dr. Pleasants is the best professor I've had at UF. His lectures are awesome. His stories are amazing. He is a piece of living history. There's a lot of reading though; it can be tough. Don't let that dissuade you from taking his classes. He is a great lecturer, a fascinating person, and a fantastic professor. Take any class of his you can find!

Lectures were great and I actually looked forward to many of them. Book review was easy as long as you adhered to what he wanted. Exams were difficult to study for because of the breadth of topics that could potentially be tested. Overall, he made material very interesting and was a great prof.

I took him for my history seminar and he was the best teacher I had at UF. The assigned books were great, and even though the class was 3 hours long he made it entertaining throughout with his engaging lectures and stories. One of the best!
